In Larsen Health Center and beyond, Functional Pathways helps residents stay engaged in daily life through therapy, prevention, and wellness support across the continuum. Enhancing Independence in Daily Life Occupational therapy (OT) focuses Supporting Strength, Mobility, and Balance Bringing Wellness Closer to Home Functional Pathways has introduced

functional fitness testing for residents of Assisted Living, starting at the Springs and expanding to the other neighborhoods. The assessment looks at strength, balance, flex- ibility, cognition, and risk of frailty, giving each resident a personal baseline and a plan built around it, whether that means joining a group fitness class, starting therapy, or work- ing one-on-one with a personal trainer. Resi- dents are retested every six months, and early findings are promising, with the majority of participants either maintaining their progress or showing improvement. Regular programming within the Assist- ed Living residences includes classes that pair movement with memory, language, and prob- lem-solving activities. Aquatic exercise is avail- able at The Springs, and at King’s Crown, a SMARTfit board adds interactive exercises that engage both body and mind. Personal training is also offered on-site for the first time, bringing certified, structured program- ming to residents who may find it difficult to travel to the Wright Wellness Center. A Continuum Approach Whether a resident is working with an occupational therapist to manage daily rou- tines, rebuilding strength in physical therapy, building memory strategies through speech therapy, joining a group fitness class, or train- ing one-on-one within their own residence, the goal is the same: keep moving, stay con- nected, and participate as fully as possible in daily life, at every stage of the continuum. It can help with: • Memory, attention, and problem- solving challenges • Social communication and confidence • Speech difficulties following strokes or neurological conditions • Voice changes or weakness • Swallowing disorders (dysphagia), reducing the risk of choking or aspiration Speech therapists strengthen communica- tion skills, support cognitive health, and ensure safe eating and drinking.
