THE NEWS TOWNSHIP OF RUSSELL INTRODUCES NEW ADVANCE QUESTION OPTION FOR COUNCIL MEETINGS

Municipal officials say the initiative is ano- ther step toward increasing public engage- ment and encouraging residents to become more involved in local decision-making. Residents can visit the Township of Rus- sell website to submit questions and consult upcoming council agendas.
Questions must be submitted by noon on the day of the meeting. Residents can submit their questions through an online form, by email to the Clerk’s Office, or by mailing or delivering a written letter to the office. The township is also encouraging resi- dents to review meeting agendas in advance in order to stay informed about upcoming discussions and decisions. To be accepted, questions must relate directly to an item listed on the meeting agenda. Submissions must also include the sender’s name, as anonymous questions will not be accepted. In addition, the township states that all submissions must use respectful language and remain relevant and appropriate to the topic being discussed. The Clerk’s Office will review all submis- sions before the meeting. Questions that do not meet the established requirements will not be approved.
During council meetings, approved ques- tions will be read aloud during the “Public Questions on the Meeting of the Day” portion of the agenda. Council members or township staff will respond when possible. If a question relates to an item added to the agenda during the meeting itself, the response may be postponed until the next council meeting. The township also noted that approved questions and responses will form part of

The initiative allows residents to submit questions ahead of time regarding items listed on upcoming council meeting agendas. Submitted questions will then be read aloud and answered during the meeting. According to the township, the new pro- cess is intended to make participation more accessible for residents who may be unable to attend meetings in person or who prefer to prepare their questions in advance. Residents, property owners, business owners within the Township of Russell, as well as their official representatives, are eligible to submit questions related to upco- ming council meetings.
