November 2017

November is Patient Appreciation Month!

Sure enough! Every year, wedged between a spooky Halloween and the Christmas craziness is this little holiday called Thanksgiving, a day we typically spend preparing and eating too much food and then watching football. The truly best parts of Thanksgiving for Kent and me include seeing some of our extended family, slowing down to be more grateful, and having a weekend time to transition to Christmas decorations. What are your traditions or favorite memories? Here at ZPT we have been wanting to extend a “welcome back” message or gifts to those who have been such wonderful customers, friends to us, ZPT cheerleaders to others, or simply, our PT graduates. We came up with a Gratitude Event for November, and here’s what we planned: Our ZPT Gratitude Event will be held on Thursday, November 16th, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. At this event, we will have a day of completely free exams for: • All past clients who have not been seen in PT in more than 3 months • All present clients who have another problem area currently not being treated • All loved ones, family, friends, neighbors and co- workers of one of our past or present clients The free exam consists of a 30 minute one-on-one appointment with your physical therapist, who will talk with you about the history of your problem, test how well you are moving, and briefly test your strength or balance. After this short exam, they will give you a written copy of: 1. The cause of your pain or problem 2. A plan for successful treatment (just in time to get better before the holidays!) We are grateful to be able to extend this opportunity to our past patients and their loved ones. It is ideal for people suffering with:

• Lower back pain • Neck pain

• Balance issues • Knee or hip pain • Headaches • Difficulty walking

• Arthritis • Sciatica • Shoulder or upper back pain • Postural weakness

• Procrastination or Denial issues related to caring for themselves

So there are really 3 things for you to do in order to be fully appreciated in our GRATITUDE EVENT: 1. Complete the survey inside this issue 2. Call the ZPT office to schedule your Free Exam (or schedule your friend and bring them in!) 3. Come in to ZPT at Boone Village, attend your Free Exam and turn in your survey for a chance to win a MY SUGAR PIE gift card. The appointments are free, but are limited, as each PT has only 10 spots. Call 317.873.2033 now to schedule your free exam. Open up this newsletter and cut out the survey to complete and bring with you. Ready, set, THANK YOU!!! From the staff at ZPT, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

A STRONGER CORE MEANS A HEALTHIER YOU

Do you ever find yourself slouching in a chair, slumping at the computer or your belly sticking out after standing for awhile? This is a sign of core muscle weakness that can negatively affect your health and create back or neck pain. What Are Your Core Muscles? Your “core” is the group of muscles that help stabilize your trunk and give a strong point from which your limbs can move properly with good posture. The core is made up of your abdominal, low back, pelvic, and gluteus muscles. When any one of these groups is weak, it can cause instability, poor balance, bad posture, fatigue, inflammation and back or neck pain. Can’t I Just Do Sit-ups? Strengthening the abdominals is just one component of strengthening your core muscles. It takes an expert, trained in the science of human movement to analyze fromwhere your pain is coming. Our physical therapy professionals are just those experts. Whether your pain is from your back, neck, shoulders, or legs, we perform a thorough analysis of your posture, movement, and strength. This allows us to pinpoint exactly what is causing your pain, select the correct exercises to begin your program and develop an effective treatment plan to obtain the fastest results. Get to the CORE of your issues and carve out some time and energy to come to ZPT and take care of it! Call 317.873.2033.
