GREG BARSH
Greg Barsh, MD, PhD, is a faculty investigator and Smith Family Chair in Genomics at the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, and a professor of genetics at Stanford University. Research Focus His research group studies the genetic and evolutionary mechanisms that underlie differences in individual appearance, and that could give new insight into both basic biology and human disease. Expertise Genetics of skin, eye, and hair color; developmental and medical genetics; evolution and genetics of domestic animals Lab Members Senior Scientists: Gopal Battu, PhD, Chris Kaelin, PhD, and Kelly McGowan, PhD Animal Specialist Intern: Hermie Manuel, PhD
JOSH CLEVENGER
Josh Clevenger, PhD, is a faculty investigator at the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology. Research Focus He focuses his research efforts on crop improvement for sustainable agriculture, with a specific aim of helping small and underserved breeding programs and farmers across the world introduce genomics into their breeding practices. Expertise Genomics, plant biology, plant breeding, sustainable agriculture, peanuts, crop improvement, computational biology Lab Members Computational Biologists: Walid Korani, PhD, and Zach Myers, PhD
Project Manager: Courtney Hubbard Project Coordinator: Kaitlyn Williams Wiregrass Project Manager: Abby Burch
O ur hope is to bridge the gap between science and nature by more rapidly deploying beneficial traits into cultivated crops farmers can plant on their land. To do this, we will develop better computational tools to help identify selection markers for beneficial traits, and new, rapid breeding practices to introduce these markers into existing crop lines.
