Each year the Composition Competition takes place in the Lent term and in 2016 this was adjudicated by the distinguished Composer in Residence from Winchester College, Oliver Tarney. Boys also take part in an annual community composition project in association with Dulwich Picture Gallery. ‘When I heard that there was a composition competition free for anyone to apply for, I saw a chance to improve my composition skills and a chance to win something for the effort.’ Alex Matthews, Year 11 There are regular music workshops for Years 7-9. These encourage free learning and provide opportunities for boys to broaden their experiences of live music. In the summer of 2016, professional composer Sarah Warne visited the Lower School once again to present a stimulating workshop about writing for film and television and the compositional process. Amongst other projects, Sarah is currently working on music for the ITV series Humans . Sarah presented a fascinating hour-long session that captivated the boys’ imaginations and inspired them with excerpts from her score for Robomax .

A Steel Pan Workshop in the Lent term 2016 gave Year 7 boys the chance to play Caribbean music.
