Live Response - Year 12 and 13 artists and musicians collaborate in an improvised live interpretation of a poem by a Year 12 writer.
Each year’s Symposium focuses on an interdisciplinary theme chosen with the help of Upper School pupils. In 2016, the theme was Sound, and keynote speakers included journalist Miranda Sawyer, who explored the ability of music to transform a city’s image, and sound designers Gareth Fry and Paul Weir, who demonstrated the ways in which sound influences us both consciously and subconsciously. Top jazz trumpeter and composer Mark Armstrong led an interdisciplinary workshop in which Upper School artists and musicians collaborated to devise an improvised performance based on a poem by Year 12 pupil Thomas Whittaker.
Taking place every October, the Symposium is a cross-curricular day of intellectually stimulating talks, workshops and seminars for all Sixth Form pupils, delivered by high-profile external speakers and College staff.
