And, of course, it definitely helped that it was a wild story, charged throughout with Branson’s characteristically irreverent humor. When Branson started Virgin, the company that would make him one of the richest men in the world, it was little more than a student magazine. But he’s nothing if not a man with lofty aspirations. From that humble beginning, he built Virgin up to a massive conglomerate of more than 400 businesses, sticking to his mantra, “Screw it, let’s do it,” every step of the way. Branson’s original autobiography “Losing My Virginity” charted his path from student to international success, but this one is more focused on the latter half of his career, especially the past 20 years. It paints a vivid picture of a man who never stops dreaming big, expanding his insanely profitable brand to new frontiers since the turn of the millennium, even guiding Virgin into the stars with the world’s first
most fun lives ever, rubbing elbows with people like Nelson Mandela and George Clooney, or standing on top of an air balloon 10,000 feet in the air. Key to his whole philosophy is the idea that we need to take risks to find any kind of success. Some of the moves he makes in the book would absolutely terrify other entrepreneurs, but in Branson’s hand turn to gold. While I don’t agree with everything he says in the book, I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking to break out of their business bubble and start transforming the world around them.
