of learning foreign languages in our global world. We were also honoured to have as our guest speaker State Minister in the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertain- ment and Sport, the Honourable Alando Terrelonge, who also gave a very engaging presentation, “The Advantage of Knowing Foreign Languages on the Regional and Global Level in the 21 st Century”. Over 110 students from over 11 schools attended and participated in the event. Booths displaying DMLL sections and the Embassies of Spain, Colombia, China, Mexico and Japan brought cultural items that were displayed in the courtyard. The day was full of activities: games, microteaching sessions, informative sessions about programmes and possible scholarships and study abroad opportunities, etc. The UWI students in the department participated by being ushers, assistants in the booths, reading a poem in the Opening ceremony and performing in the closing ceremony concert. The DMLL French Section and HoD, actively participated in the 2022 staging of Touch of France that took place at the AC Marriot Hotel, Kingston, from November 10 to November 13. Miss Soyini Ashby was the event coordinator from the DMLL and Dr Maite Villoria gave a talk on Friday, November 11, 2022. November 11, 2022, the DMLL participated in the UWI, Mona Campus Quality Day from the UWI Quality Week with the theme “Quality Conscience: Doing the Right thing”. The department participated with a five-minute video delivered by Dr. de Inés Antón. On March 8, 2023, honouring the International Women’s Day , the DMLL collabo- rated with the Embassy of Spain, the Institute for Gender and Development Studies and The Faculty of Science and Technology to present the Spanish film Mataharis by female Spanish director Icíar Bollaín. The Honourable Kamina Johnson-Smith and the Honourable Alando Terrelonge were present as distinguished guests. Student Iana Tickle García, major in Spanish, read a Spanish Poem by Concha Méndez. On April 22, 2023, our CAPE Workshop was carried out. The Workshop was attended by 27 attendees coming from Ardenne High, Old Harbour High, Immac- ulate Conception High, St. Hugh’s High School for Girls, Wolmer’s Boys High, St Hilda’s Diocesan High School, and York Castle High School. The workshop was also attended by Mrs. Ramonia Smith-Hamilton, Education Officer of Spanish at the Ministry of Education and Youth.

Public Lectures On February 17, 2023, the DMLL together with the Quality Assurance Unit held an online Public Lecture entitled “The Worlds of Chinese Popular Music: From Yellow Music to Circuit Listening” by Professor Andrew F. Jones , University of
