PUBLIC SERVICE − Dr Marcia Rainford has been appointed as a member of the National Council of Education, effective March 1, 2023. Members of the School of Education’s Academic Staff conducted or participated in the following workshops / outreach activities • Camperdown High School Bramwell-Lalor, S. & Ison, M. (2022, September 7). “Keys to Assessment that matters.” Conducted with high school teachers. • Negril Environmental Education Trust (NEET) Summer CAMP Bramwell-Lalor, S., Ferguson, T., Ison, M. (2022, July 13 and 15). “Climate Change for Primary Schools: Enhancing Teachers’ Preparedness to Deliver.” Conducted with primary and secondary school teachers. • United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNE- SCO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Youth (MoEY) Ferguson, T. (2022, August 9–12, 17–18). ‘Teacher Wellbeing and Classroom Behaviour Management’ for schools within and surrounding the communities of Denham Town (Kingston) and Norwood (St. James). The School of Education hosted a professional development workshop on Inqui- ry-Based Teaching in the Jamaican Mathematics Classroom. The event targeted pre and in-service primary and secondary mathematics teachers/coaches (2023, April 13, 2023). Presentations were as follows: − Overview of Inquiry-Based Learning – Dr. Lois George − Questioning Techniques & Problem-Solving – Dr. Avalloy McCarthy-Curvin − Activities teachers can use to facilitate Inquiry-Based Practice – Mrs. McEachin (Math Educator & Dean of Natural Science Department at St. Joseph’s Teacher’s College). • Dr. Therese Ferguson was invited by the UNESCO Cluster Office for the Carib- bean to facilitate a workshop session on Peace Education as part of the UNESCO Education Discussion Forum – “Unpacking Trends and Issues in Education Transformation” , April 27, 2023, Kingston, Jamaica. The Forum was geared towards policymakers, curriculum planners and education officers. • Dr. Therese Ferguson was invited to be a Keynote Speaker at the First Sustain- able Islands Solutions through Science, Technology Engineering and Mathe- matics (SISSTEM) Symposium at the University of Aruba, May 10–12, 2023, Oranjestad, Aruba. Her presentation was entitled “ Sustainability Education in the Caribbean: Importance, Impediments and Imperatives”.
