DEPARTMENT OF CHILD AND ADOLESCENT HEALTH

MISSION To provide high quality child and family centred health care through service delivery, teaching and research.

WORK OF THE DEPARTMENT The Department of Child and Adolescent Health comprises a multidisciplinary team of academics and professionals who pursue excellence in research, teaching, training of undergraduate students and postgraduate healthcare professionals, scholastic and professional leadership, clinical services, advisory, consultations, collaboration with stakeholders, public and community service. The academic staff comprises four professors, two senior lecturers, three lectur- ers, six associate lecturers (University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI)) and twenty-four associate lecturers in affiliate clinical training sites. The academic team provides teaching, training and assessment for undergraduate and postgraduate students at geographically separate sites. There are administrative personnel and one office attendant. The Department provides undergraduate instruction in the MBBS programme through the Junior Clerkship in Paediatrics (part of the Aspects of Family Medi- cine course) in year 3 and the Senior Clerkship in year 5 of the MBBS programme respectively. Additionally, faculty deliver lectures and other instruction to courses in year 1 to 3 of the MBBS Programme. The postgraduate programme in Paediatrics (Doctor of Medicine in Paediatrics) Mona (students registered in Jamaica and in the Bahamas) is harmonised in admin- 188
