At Jockey Club Racecourses, the payment of bonuses is based on individual and business performance of the previous financial year, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, bonus payments were temporarily suspended from April 2020. Whilst this suspension applied to our company wide bonus scheme, individuals in our Commercial teams were eligible to receive bonuses based on the achievement of personal commercial performance targets. Our 2021 bonus figures therefore apply to a considerably smaller percentage of our employees than previous years and the variance in reporting figures can be can be directly linked to the impact of Covid-19 on the financial performance of the business. In addition to the effects of the pandemic, the previously mentioned requirement to include individuals who work on a casual worker agreement in our calculations does have an impact on our yearly results. This is due to them not being eligible to receive a bonus.

We have experienced a slight fluctuation in the percentage of women in the lower two salary quartiles for 2021. This fluctuation is in-line with the decrease in numbers of casual workers employed on the snapshot date than previous years. In contrast to this though, we have seen an increase in the percentage of women in the higher two salary quartiles and are committed to ensure that there are equal opportunities in all areas and roles within the business, regardless of how our employees identify.
