PROVINCE CUTS TRILLIUM FOUNDATION FUNDING &/#3&'r#3*&'4 FISHING LICENSE FEE INCREASE FROZEN

The Ontario Government recently put a stop to fishing license fee increases for all Ontario residents and removed the $2 service fee. “We’re making it easier for Ontarians to get out on the water and enjoy the great outdoors by keeping fishing licenses more affor- dable,” said John Yakabuski, Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry. “Next year, whether renewing a license or purchasing for the first time, there will be no price hike and no service fee. “In addition to freezing fees, the government is adding two new license-free fishing events in 2019, on the weekends of Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. «Recreational fishing is a $2.2 billion industry in Ontario,» said Minister Yakabuski.– Francis Racine SDG WARDEN SWORN IN Mayor Jamie MacDonald of North Glengarry Township will serve for the second time as warden for the United Counties of Stormont-Dundas- Glengarry. Local municipalities seeking financial aid from the Ontario Trillium Foundation for community projects may have less chance of success. The provincial go- vernment is cutting its support funding for the foundation by several million dollars. Last month provincial media reported that the Ford Progressive Conservative govern- ment is cutting its funding allocation to the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) by $15 million. There was no mention of the plan- ned funding reduction in the government’s earlier economic profile report.
