numbers of photographs and slides, many of them «one-of-a-kind», of significant, and in some cases, unique events that have taken place in the South Nation River wa- tershed region. They include on-site photos and film footage from the Lemieux slide, irreplaceable pictures of the various dam construction projects that gave birth to the SNC flood control andmonitoring program, and images of ordinary people living their lives in the South Nation region. «We’ve got about 10,000 35mm slides, photos, negatives and such,» said O’Grady, adding that one of his goals is to winnow that down to about 2000 key photographic examples from SNC history. The end result will be invaluable to SNC staff, present and future, for better unders- tanding of their own purpose, and both future historians and researchers for their own projects. Still, some might wonder why O’Grady would choose to spend part of his retirement years sorting through old files and photos at the SNC office. His answer is simple.
