1. Past—He “ delivered” us. 2. Present—He “doth reliver.” 3. Future—-He “will yet deliver.”

The new generation o f young people in Israel needed to take the oaths and coven ants which their fathers took before Sinai. Moses, just before his death, urges that they choose to take these obligations, as the issues of life and o f death are wrapped up in them. Moses states, in substance: I. The Requirements o f God's Covenant. 1. A consuming passion of heart— love for God. 2. A rigid standard o f excellence— obedience to God’s law. 3. A difficult test o f character- steadfastness unto the end. II. The Secret of God’s Covenant. The secret is God Himself, the life of His people—“He is thy life, and the length o f thy days.” III. God’s Covenant Promises. God promises all the blessings o f His land. Joshua Ordained D euteronomy 31:7, 8 I. A Charge —“ Be strong and of a good courage.” Joshua was to be the successor of Moses. As such, he was to lead Israel into her inheritance. II. A Task —“ Thou must go with this people unto the land which the Lord hath sworn unto their fathers to give them.” 1. A stupendous task. 2. A dangerous task. 3. A glorious task. III. A Promise —“The Lord, he it is that God’s Program as Contrasted with Man's “ Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Be hold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste” (Isa. 28:16). The text and context declare God’s pro gram to be: I. One o f Opposition to Man’s Program. He sets it in the earth in spite of man’s— 1. High-handedness. 2. Oppressions. 3. Cunning artifices. II. One of. Stability. The program of, man will not stand the overwhelming floods of the judgment day. God’s city rests upon a R ock : 1. A tried stone. 2. A precious stone. 3. A sure stone. 1. Condemnation and confusion of face await the wicked. 2. Salvation and vindication await believers. III. One of Judgment. doth go before thee.” 1. A pledge of victory. 2. A pledge of fellowship.
