Guild Member Salon Show

Kristy A. Avery ABOUT: I was raised downstate in the Detroit and Midland areas, dabbling in art when possible. I enjoyed years in the corporate world where my event-planning career took me on travels across the U.S., plus abroad to Europe and Asia. I have now settled into life in Northern Michigan as an artist inspired by this beautiful area. My artistic background and training are the result of formal education, classes, life experiences, and exploring a range of techniques, styles, and media. My current focus is acrylic, mixed media, and collage. I have also worked in other media, including photography, digital photography (“dreamscapes”), pottery, and glass. I continue to expand my interest and involvement in art by networking with the many other talented artists in the area, enjoying memberships with several Northern Michigan art councils, and producing artwork for art shows and galleries. The opportunities I have had traveling the world have inspired and influenced my art, especially in my use of color and exploration of techniques. I don’t have one set “style,” but many say my work is distinctive. I use bright or bold color in most cases, whether I’m doing a piece that is abstract, contemporary, impressionistic, or whimsical. I sign my artwork with the initials “KAZ” from my given name (Zitta). 2020 and 2021 have been personally challenging, so I am not currently active in galleries and shows. It is my inspiration and goal for the future. THIS YEAR: I have been enjoying the work of local artists and photographers that I see online during the past year of isolation. It ’s been hard for me to find creative energy in negative and challenging times. I counteract this by finding positive energy in the colors and beauty of nature around me or by looking at photos of places I have traveled. My current inspirations and creations continue to be bright and bold, and sometimes whimsical. The value in this is that it lifts up my spirits. CONTACT: kaavery12@yahoo.com

“Hip Hop,” Acrylic on canvas, 20 x 16 in, $300. “Hip Hop” is the result of working in the garden and meeting up with the “locals.” I wanted to keep the painting simple with the focus on the frog. I am always amazed at the colors of nature and the natural camouflage adapted to the surroundings. My rendition is bold and bright and made a simple frog demand attention. I love the discovery of small creatures around me, and I’m sure others feel the same.

“Day Breaks,” (Tree at Dawn) Acrylic on canvas, 24” x 18”. $475. “Day Breaks” was inspired by an amazing photograph taken by my husband, Ragnar Avery, at the Columbia River Gorge on one of his photography expeditions. It was a challenge to myself to capture the landscape in my own style and expression. The serenity of nature at dawn is a gift to all and my goal was to share that moment.
