This work is one of the best Bible commentaries of our day, having the advantage of being comprehensible to this generation. Although the author covers the book of Genesis chapter by chapter and verse by verse, he does not become too involved, but keeps the ex position lucid, thorough, and interesting. Dr. Leupold uses his own literal trans lation from the Hebrew and paraphrases extensively. Although this is not a devo tional book,, there are appropriate appli cations of scriptural truth, and at the close of each chapter valuable homi- letical suggestions appear. A splendid introduction and full bibliography are included. There are frequent quotations from Luther, and the interpretation, although somewhat Lutheran, is emi nently sound, and the Bible is exalted as, the very Word of God, divinely in spired. This volume is a satisfactory reply to non-believing scholarship. 1220 pages. Baker Book House, Grand Rap ids, Mich. Cloth. Price $7.00 (3.50each).
