T h r e e “ D ’ s ” a n d T h r e e D a n g e r s OBJECTS: Three “ d’s” about 4 inches high. (Color the first gilt, the second black and the third blue.) LESSON: We have three “ d’s” today. The one about which I want to talk first is gold colored and we will let it remind us of the word “ delight.” In 2 Chronicles 7:1 we read “Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt-offer ing and the sacrifices; and the glory of the L o r d filled the house.” Solomon had just completed the temple and the glory of the Lord filling the tem ple indicated that the Lord was pleased with what Solomon had done. In 2 Chronicles 5:14 we read, “ So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of God.” To have had such recognition by the Lord must have been a delight. In the same chaper in which we are told about the delight, we are told about three dangers. We will let this black “ d” remind us of the dangers, as they were associated with sins. “ If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people” (2 Chron. 7:13). We have drought, devourers and disease men tioned as three possible dangers which might come to the children of Israel because of their sins. We have another “ d” which has a message for us. It is blue and remind us of the word “ deliverance.” The promise of deliverance is found in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “ If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sins, and will heal their land.” Notice that deliverance is promised when the people who are called by God’s name humble themselves, pray, seek His face and turn from their wicked ways. Today, Christian peo ple would be the ones called by His name. Yes, Christians hold a key which can unlock the door of God’s blessings. If God’s people do these things, He has promised to hear from heaven, forgive their sins, and heal the land. This certainly is a wonderful deliv erance which the Lord has promised.
