only makes the past live again but is able to interpret the present in its relationship to that present, showing that the problems which we face to day are universal and that the Bible has the pertinent answers for them” (in a personal letter). The author is British, bom in Southeast London. She reproduces the essential truths of the Gospel accounts, albeit with some naivete, this being her first published book. Perhaps it is better for the average reader to be left in the hubbub of everyday life without so much lit erary artistry if it takes the story somewhat out of the realm of litera ture and puts it into real life.—320 pages; cloth; Abingdon Press, Nash- ville; $4,50. THE Z0NDERVAN EXPANDED CONCORDANCE One of the most welcome publica tions in recent days certainly will be this volume which contains more than a quarter of a million references. Key words are taken from six modem Bi ble translations including those from the New Scofield Reference Bible. Those who have used concordances in the past will be delighted to see that word endings are centered in columns so that passages are more easily found. Most of the words are accompanied by modifiers according to their alphabetizing. Any student of the Scripture will want this to be a handy desk reference for regular usage. — 1848 pages; doth; Zonder- van Publishing House, Grand Rapids, Mich.; $14.95.

PROPHETIC TRUTH UNFOLDING TODAY E d ite d b y C h a rles L . F e in b e r g This volume contains the messages delivered at the Congress on Proph ecy convened by the American Board of Missions to the Jews in New York in May of 1967, being the fifth such Congress under their auspices. Seven teen lectures include such subjects as the church and the tribulation, Israel, lasting peace, the power struggle of the end time, the Second Advent, and the resurrection. Two fascinating subjects are “ Deborah’s Prophecies,” by Allan A. MacRae, and “The New Scofield Bible and Missions to the Jews,” by Daniel Fuchs. Other speak ers are E. Schuyler English, Charles L. Feinberg, Frank E. Gaebelein, Clarence E. Masson, Jr., Stephen Ol- ford, and John F. Walvoord. These prophetic conferences probably bring us as close as we can get to current thinking in Biblical eschatology. — 160 pages; cloth; Fleming H. Revell Co., Westwood, N.J.; $3.95. THE EYEWITNESSES; THE TESTIMONY OF JOHN b y M a r y R ona ld s The time is the first century. The speaker is John — a teen-ager who is in love with Miriam, John the son of a fisherman who helped his father with the boats. But it was this young John who became the famous and be loved apostle of the Lord. This is a novel of his life and experiences in the little village along the shores of the Sea of Galilee. The Biblical novel has held a prom inent place in American literature for half a century, although it goes further back than that. Of the more than 140 novels on Jesus and his days, nearly fifty of them date from 1950 to the present year. Dorothy Clarke Wilson, a writer of Biblical novels herself, says, “ I believe that Biblical fiction makes a real contri bution in making historical events and great personalities vitally alive, human, and understandable.
