N E W S L E T T E R PHYSICAL THERAPY CAN PREVENT DEADLY CORONAVIRUS SYMPTOMS

In addition to the individualized exercise program, Kishimoto explained that controlled coughing, while you are at a distance from others, is something else that patients should do to keep their lungs active. “Coughing helps bring out any of that mucus that’s sedentary in the lungs and can help keep the infection from getting worse,” Kishimoto said. According to Pentz and Kishimoto, patients are not only happy receiving physical therapy via telehealth, but as of now, none of them have developed pneumonia while doing the exercises.

Two UW Medicine physical therapists (Hilary Pentz and Adrienne Kishimoto) developed ways for Coronavirus patients to start healing on their own and prevent as many as possible from being admitted to hospitals. They worked on creating an individualized exercise program for these patients. The exercise programs fall into two different categories: breathing and conditioning. These categories are meant to speed up the oxygen exchange in your lungs and keep blood flow active. These are individually tailored so that even a person who can’t get out of bed or leave a room can do their exercises effectively. “The exercises themselves are basically to help keep the circulation going and improve and flush out any mucus or congestion that stays in the lungs to prevent pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome,” Kishimoto said.

The Molekule Air Pro RX was cleared by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on April 15, 2020, as a medical-grade air purifier intended for use in destroying bacteria and viruses in the air by exposure to ultraviolet radiation. In response to the public health emergency, FDA issued guidance entitled “Enforcement Policy for Sterilizers, Disinfectant Devices, and Air Purifiers During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-2019) Public Health Emergency.” In that guidance, FDA indicated that it believed certain air purifiers may help reduce the risk of viral exposure for patients and health care providers to SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) based on the Agency’s understanding of those devices and the virus. Consequently, during the public health emergency, FDA has indicated that it would not object to claims that air purifiers can kill SARS-CoV-2 when they meet certain performance criteria and are labeled appropriately.

According to Molekule, its Air Pro RX satisfies the performance criteria set out in FDA guidance, individually addressing each relevant aspect of the device’s performance under the guidance, including effectiveness against RNA virus MS2 (a proxy virus for SARS-CoV-2). In addition, Molekule has provided supplemental labeling to support the use of the Air Pro RX to destroy SARS-CoV-2 that becomes entrained on the device’s filter. Air purifiers are used in hospital operating rooms nationwide!

Molekule is in both Great Neck and Farmingdale clinics.

What Is Tendinitis?

is why tendinitis in the elbow is frequently referred to as tennis elbow, while achilles tendinitis is sometimes referred to as runner’s ankles or runner’s heels. Treating tendinitis The best treatment for tendinitis is time. Unfortunately, this is something that many people are unable to give to an injury. When tendinitis develops, the best thing to do is to use ice and to relax that part of the body. Taking a few days off of practice or away from your workout may be sufficient, but in other cases, this may require a few days in a wheelchair or on crutches, with the bulk of your weight off of the affected area. Working with a physical therapist can help you identify the best treatment methods for tendinitis. Your physical therapist can also help you identify the best range of motion and strength-building activities to reduce your likelihood of developing tendinitis. For more information about preventing or treating pain from tendinitis, contact us.

Tendinitis is a common issue among athletes because it develops as a result of overuse. While the average person may engage in standard physical tasks such as walking or typing, an athlete takes that repetitive behavior to a new level. Consider a tennis player, for example. In addition to running and jumping, a skilled tennis player will spend hours every week swinging the racket, and this could result in added wear and tear on the elbows and wrists, not to mention the shoulders. Every bone in the body is connected with muscular fibers called tendons. The tendons are flexible, allowing the body to move more freely by letting bones stretch apart or move in one direction or another. Tendinitis occurs when the tendons become inflamed. Swelling in the tendons can make movement painful and difficult. Typically, when pain is caused as a result of tendinitis, the pain is isolated at the noted areas of the body. This means that a tennis player may experience tendinitis in the elbow or shoulder, whereas a runner may be more likely to experience it in the achilles tendon. In fact, this

Our Clinics are Now Equipped with a Virus Destroying Air Purifier!

Molekule Air Pro Rx

Medical-grade air purifier, Air Pro Rx, classifying it as a 510(k) Class 11 Medical Device

To further assure the protection of our patients and our staff, we have acquired medical-grade air purifiers. These air purifiers satisfy performance criteria set out in FDA guidance to help destroy SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Installing these air purifiers is one of many steps we are taking to reduce exposure risks. The Molekule Air Pro RX air purifier is a device intended for medical purposes that is used to destroy bacteria and viruses in the air by exposure to ultraviolet radiation. The Molekule Air Pro RX air purifier employs a photo-electrochemical oxidation (PECO) ultraviolet air purification technology that destroys bacteria, viruses and mold in air in medical facilities. The Molekule Air Pro RX air purifier includes a pre-filter and low energy ultraviolet lights (UV-A 320-400 nm), and a catalytic filter. PECO is an air purification technology that fully oxidizes bacteria, viruses, and mold. PECO works by shining UV-A light on the surface of the catalytic filter to initiate a chemical reaction that generates hydroxyl radicals. These radicals combine with microbiological contaminants, such as bacteria, viruses, and mold spores that are captured on the filter. Once combined, a chemical reaction takes place killing the contaminants.
