been held. Casually he drew from his pocket a gospel song book and placing it before him on the piano placed and sang a stanza of “I Have a Saviour Who’s Pleading Above, Have You?" At the beginning of the second stanza she ceased working to listen, and at the third was deeply in terested. At the conclusion of that song it was an easy matter to introduce the subject of her soul’s salvation and to do personal work. This young woman accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour and immediately be gan to think of others. She brought her sister to me, who in turn accepted Christ. She then began to plan for the salvation of her brothers, then her neighbors. After this she started a Sunday School in her home and was the means' of leading all of her scholars to Christ. Later she left for Melbourne and entered a missionary training college and is now a successful missionary in Fiji, in the midst of the work she loves, winning souls for the Lord Jesus Christ. It was the Gospel Solo that the Spirit of God used to gain an entrance to her heart and life. The Solo In the Revival Meeting. The most common, and in many ways the most useful place for the Gospel Solo, is in the evangelistic campaign. People expect it and are prepared to give close attention to its message, therefore the soloist should use this golden opportunity to the best advantage for God. The Soloist’s Material. Material for the soloist is gath ered from the many gospel hymn books that are published, all of which contain some good solos. A loose-leaf book is used to place these song-clippings in and the pages are numbered. This is done by the individual soloist, but the task is tedious and expensive. There is one other source of material and that is found in the few solo books that are published. These books contain a splendid variety of selected solos exclusively and are published especially for the convenience of the gospel singer. The reason that there are not more is that the cost of publishing is high and the sales slow. Suggestions to Gospel Soloists. That which is para mount in the Gospel Song is the message of the words, not the display of the music. The soloist should lay emphasis on the important words and phrases, holding or retarding even though this is not indicated in the music. Every word, however, is important and so in emphasizing one word, the thought leading up to it must not be hurried over or else the sense of connection will be lost to the hearers. The soloist should not draw attention to himself but should rather seek to lift up the Lord Jesus Christ, who promises, under that condition, to draw all men. Three stanzas are enough to sing, especially when there is a chorus. There is a sameness in a gospel song and by the time the people have listened to three stanzas they have absorbed the melody. To sing a fourth stanza is to spoil the effect of the three, generally, and to sing a fifth is to kill it entirely. That soloist who has sense enough to stop while the people are enraptured with the song is wise. Conclusion. If God has given you a voice be sure that you have yielded it back to Him in service.' Your talent is given to. use, not to bury. The eternal destiny of souls may depend on how you use your voice. If you sing to amuse, It is but to abuse The gift that God has given:
