Margaret Meyer & Alyssa Hardwick - “There's More To Them Than Meets The Eye” (poster session) Many people with cerebral palsy do not have cognitive impairments and because of their appearance people seem to assume they don't understand what’s going on. Cerebral Palsy or CP is a disorder that affects a person's ability to move, obtain balance, and maintain their posture. CP is a serious condition that can be painful and the individual cant control. Our goal is to spread awareness, knowledge, and support about the disability. The word Cerebral means having to do with the brain and Palsy means weakness or problems with the muscles. There are 4 types of cerebral palsy; mixed, spastic, dyskinetic and ataxic. People with this disability can affect all daily activities. Such as, walking, running, eating, or any activity that requires you to move. This will explore the disability to find out exactly what the disease affects, how it affects a person's daily life, what are some things done to help these people, and some statistics on how many children have this disorder. Maggie Myers (session 9) - see Hagenhoff Morgan Middleton - “Academic Motivation in College Students” (poster session) Previous research has found students' motivation in the academic setting changes or is affected due to a variety of things that vary from one individual to another. In other research they have found many factors such as social status, self determination theory, and the relationship between teachers and students. The current study focuses on the need for achievement and the correlation between the college students' motivation in the classroom. The need for achievement theory states that's when we are motivated to work on things that we are able to achieve because it increases our confidence. The importance of this study could help college students improve the college culture and increase students' achievements. The results found will be presented in the final presentation. Dušan Milošević - “Nutritional Differences Between Male College Soccer Athletes and Professional Soccer Athletes” (poster session) My Honors thesis analyzes the nutrition that Missouri Valley College athletes receive from the dining hall and compares this to what Lionel Messi and other professional athletes have available. I have conducted a survey amongst the men's soccer team and kept notes at the national championship in December last year while the team had a competition and with what was released about World Cup champion Lionel Messi’s diet. I believe that we can improve nutritional options at the dining hall situation as our already great teams would be able to perform on a higher level and bring much more joy back to Marshall. Domonique Mucker - “College Students’ Illegal Drugs and Activities” (poster session) My project is about the crimes and illegal drugs that are mostly done on college campuses. My project is to raise awareness on the number of crimes that are actually committed on college campuses.
