Marcelo Okuda Filho & Briana Vela, “Can Humans Interact with the Divine? An Analysis of The Epic of Gilgamesh , The Hebrew Bible , The Odyssey , The Ramayana of Valmiki , The New Testament ,& TheQur’an ” (session 12) Faith is derived from the Latin words “fides” and Old French “feid”. Depending on the subject or field we are discussing, it has a variety of definitions. In this presentation, we are arguing that communication, which according to Key Contemporary Concepts is “to be in relation with”, between humans and the divine genuine is a component of a belief, which means, something we think exists or is true, and not just a myth. So we are going to show through life examples and literary worlds ( The Epic of Gilgamesh, The Hebrew Bible, The Odyssey, The Ramayana of Valmiki, The New Testament, & The Qur’an ) why we believe that this interaction is a real component of belief. Marcelo Goichi Okuda Filho - “The Results of Consistency: Interpreting a Time-series Graph for Physical Development” (poster session) The poster I'm creating will utilize a time-series graph to show data I will collect myself. Although there are many other types of graphs, in this case, the time-series will be the best for my data. My mission is to run 12 minutes over 21 days (consecutively), intending to run at least 2 miles each day. Data will be presented in a time-series graph in the order that they occur at regular intervals of time. The goal is to demonstrate development and improvement in physical form and resistance, as well as variances and explanations for such developments. I will also calculate the line of best fit to estimate future values and analyze any trends in my data. Cuauhtemoc Olvera - Purple Patch Editor’s Choice Awards Showcase (session 16) Natalia Ospino - “How to be an Impactful Speaker” (session 5) Have you ever felt that your ideas are not heard? Do you feel uncomfortable managing big audiences and getting their attention? Have you ever wondered how to make a bigger impact? This project focuses on understanding the different nonverbal cues that human beings use while communicating. It is inspired by the investigations made by Vanessa Van Edwards a body language trainer and behavioral investigator. Over time, scientists and communication specialists have proven that nonverbal cues entail more than the 60% of our total communication. To be impactful speakers it was found that the main factor is being charismatic, which is the perfect mix between warmness and competence. Warm cues will give the impression of being friendly and human, while competent cues will show trustworthiness and authority. The findings of the research include how to dial and decode these cues at convenience to reach a specific goal and become better communicators. Cheyenne Parsons - “Decoding Dyslexia” (poster session) Dyslexia is a learning disability that makes it difficult for people to read due to struggles with decoding letters and words. The term dyslexia was coined in the 1880s, although it had been studied under the term "word-blindness" for several years. Dyslexia is caused by structural brain differences that cause the brain to function differently than those without dyslexia. Symptoms of dyslexia include difficulties reading and writing, confusion of letters, and the order of letters or words. This presentation will demonstrate the hardships of dyslexia as well as the diagnosis process and dyslexia treatment and intervention.
