Tillsonburg is the third fastest-growing census agglomeration in Canada, with a population increase of 17.3% from 2016 to 2021. “This is an exciting time for Tillsonburg,” says Mayor Stephen Molnar. “Community growth contributes to a balanced tax base and allows for investment in infrastructure and the development of best-in-class services and amenities. The Town has been proactively working to prepare for growth by streamlining building and planning approvals, as well as investing in water and wastewater infrastructure.” “With the addition of new residents comes exciting new business opportunities,” explains Tillsonburg Development Commissioner, Cephas Panschow. “With many people now having the option to work from home, high-speed gigabit internet throughout the community is definitely an asset, and our proximity to multiple urban centres makes hybrid or commuting options viable as well.” Growth is also being driven by Government of Ontario investments into the region. The Ministry of Long-Term Care awarded peopleCare Communities 160 new long-term care bed licenses, enabling them to build a brand new home in the heart of Tillsonburg. The Ontario government is also supporting an investment of $2M by Tillsonburg Tube Inc. to strengthen the domestic manufacturing sector and attract new investments to the local economy. The Town recently announced that Phase 2 of the Van Norman Innovation Park (VIP) is underway, positioning the town for future growth. Once constructed the VIP will support hundreds of new jobs in Advanced Manufacturing, Food Processing and Logistics!

The goal of the Tillsonburg High Tech Manufacturing Alliance (THiMA) is to facilitate a “disruptive shift” that works to catapult local manufacturers, through increased innovation and exporting into the global economy. The vision is to establish Tillsonburg and the surrounding area as a leading cluster of innovation within Southwestern Ontario. This will be accomplished through the increased adoption of technology, enhanced collaboration between secondary and post-secondary education institutions, and increased growth into export markets. With an already strong advanced manufacturing sector (including transportation equipment, machinery, fabricated metal products, electrical equipment, appliance and components) the THiMA initiative will be focused on further developing Tillsonburg as an innovative, highly adaptable manufacturing location. The Alliance will support programs and work with industry experts that support globally competitive businesses and manufacturing operations.
