Step 2: Affirm yourself every day. To be self-confident, you need to have a positive view of yourself. A good way to put yourself on the path to success is to practice affirmations every day. Step 3: Educate yourself. Insecurity can be a result of lack of experience. Seeking training opportunities in your community or through a program can better prepare you for success when providing care to your loved one or in a professional capacity. Step 4: Self Care. Taking time to care for yourself is essential. Self-confidence depends immensely on being physically, mentally and emotionally healthy. It can be difficult to provide care if you are burnt out. Exercising, preventative care, following a balanced diet, and getting adequate sleep are all parts of self-care. Choosing a hobby like reading a book, hiking with friends, or whatever it is that will bring you joy is also important. If you are searching for ways to improve as a caregiver, you can also reach out to Pima Council on Aging. There are training courses offered through Family Caregiver Support, Caregiver Training Institute and PimaCare at Home. Thank you to all the incredible caregivers who dedicate their time to helping others. Continue to persevere and care for yourself!

Every November, National Family Caregivers Month is a time to recognize and honor not only family caregivers but ALL CAREGIVERS across the country. It offers an opportunity to raise awareness of caregiving issues, educate communities, and increase support for caregivers. Families are the primary source of support for older adults and people with disabilities in the U.S. Many family caregivers work, which can lead to a buildup of stress and conflicts between competing responsibilities. Research indicates caregiving also takes a significant emotional, physical and financial toll. With nearly half of all caregivers over age 50, many are vulnerable to a decline in their own health. Empowerment of the family caregiver: Family caregivers are often not professionally trained, which can lead to lack of confidence. It’s important for caregivers to take steps to become more self-confident as it will help them provide better care for their loved one and allow them to feel more secure. Ways to become more empowered can include: Step 1: Visualize your success. Beginning your self-confidence journey, take the time to picture yourself as a “great” caregiver. Ask yourself what does that look and feel like?

RASKOB - PAULUS CAREGIVER TRAINING SKILLS LAB

PimaCare at Home provides caregivers with training in our Raskob-Paulus Caregiver Skills Lab . Many times, people receive training in settings that do not resemble the actual work environment. Our skills lab is designed as a realistic home setting, providing a hands-on learning opportunity representative of what people may experience in their own homes. It is equipped with durable medical equipment (DME) and adaptive devices that can help people restore their independence, live with dignity, and remain safely in the comfort of their home. Using this skills lab and classroom, we provide caregivers with the highest quality of hands-on skills training combined with extensive caregiving knowledge, establishing a strong foundation for success for both the caregiver, their loved ones, and/or their future clients.
