Global Packaging To Reach $82 Billion In 2021 The retail-ready packaging market will reach $82.0 billion by 2021, according to new research from Smithers Pira. The rise is based on a 4 percent annual growth from $62.8 billion in 2015. The areas with highest rate of expansion are Asia-Pacific and Africa, which currently boast 6 percent annual growth. “Shorter print runs are seen as a key factor driving the retail-ready packaging (RRP) market, as more re- tailers and brand owners are looking to promotional marketing to boost sales,” said Stephen Harrod, au- thor of the Smithers report.“These promotions result in unpredictable demand for packaging in general – including RRPs – creating a premium on short runs and quick response to orders.” Roll-To-Roll Printing Market To Reach $27 Billion By 2024 Roll-to-Roll Printing Market size was valued at around $14.5 billion in 2015 and may reach $27.1 billion from 2016 to 2024, growing at a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 14 percent, according to a new report from Global Market Insights.

Kenosha, Wisconsin, facility will replace both these current operations. The company’s headquarters, however, will remain in Lake Forest. This new facility will also have the distinction of being the largest of Colbert’s three manufacturing plants, surpassing the facility in Elkhart, Indiana. The Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. has authorized Colbert Packaging to receive up to $850,000 in state tax credits over the next three years, contingent upon the number of jobs Colbert Packaging creates and the amount of capital invest- ment the company makes during that time. Reported- ly, the agreement requires Colbert to have 108 workers within three years, said a spokesman for the Wisconsin Development Corp.Colbert’s flexo opera- tions currently employs 65 people. High Impact Kenosha County provided $250,000 from its High Impact Fund designed to give companies incentives to create jobs in Kenosha County, according to an an- nouncement from the Milwaukee 7 regional econom- ic development group. Colbert held an event earlier this month at the site of the new property. In attendance were Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and several local elected offi- cials, including Kenosha Mayor John Antaramian and Kenosha County Executive Jim Kreuser. Colbert was originally founded in 1959 when Charles Colbert bought the property and assets of Kroeck Paper Box, which was founded in 1892. Orig- inally located in Chicago, Illinois, the company moved to Melrose Park, Illinois, when Colbert pur- chased Franklin Folding Box.The company moved its corporate offices and folding carton operations to Lake Forest in 1986. “We started the flexo division 18 years ago and have since been through two expansions. We’re excit- ed to be making this significant investment for ex- pansion that will be the footprint for our projected growth into 2020 and beyond,” said Jim Hamilton, President of Colbert Packaging. Pritzker Group To Acquire ProAmpac

Flexo Market News

I NTERNET D IRECTORY

Pritzker Group Private Capital has signed a defini- tive agreement to acquire ProAmpac, a global flexi- ble packaging company, from Wellspring Capital Management. Pritzker Group Private Capital and other co-in- vestors are investing alongside the ProAmpac man- agement team, which will remain a significant shareholder, continue to lead the company and serve on its board of directors. The transaction is expected to close by the end of November. Range Of Products Headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, ProAmpac has more than 2,400 employees across 18 manufacturing locations in North America, Europe and Asia. The company offers a broad range of products and capa- bilities, including wide web extrusion coating and laminating of film, foil, paperboard and nonwovens; metallizing; pouching; bag converting, and ro- togravure and flexographic printing. Flint Group, AMS Partner For LED Ink Solution Flint Group and Air Motion Systems have partnered to develop, test and introduce a line of LED-curable low-migration inks for in-mold labels that meet strict regulations for inks intended for food-packaging ap- plications. Strict Guidelines According to officials, the new inks adhere to guidelines put forth in the “Swiss Ordinance” (SR 817.023.21), a piece of legislation introduced by Switzerland in 2010 (and revised multiple times, most recently in June 2015) that outlines sub- stances/components deemed safe for use in the pro- duction of pr inting inks developed for food packaging, and that of similarly sensitive goods. The Swiss Ordinance guidelines are designed to avoid sit- uations where, if ink were to “migrate” into a product and contaminate it, consumers would potentially be harmed; going a step further, it also mandates the ac- ceptable migratory properties of any elements/sub- stances on the list of approved potential ink ingredients on a PPM level, to ensure that consumers are at no risk. Because regulations around the world vary greatly, the “Swiss Ordinance” is reportedly considered a stringent and thorough set of rules to specifically ad- dress printing inks for such applications.

SuperCorrExpo ( Cont’d from Page 8)

Windsor LLC and former Senior Director of Packag- ing Procurement at Walmart. “Changes in Retail and Their Impact on Packaging” was the focus of Sasine’s presentation. He highlight- ed three key points that are needed in order to win in today’s evolving retail marketplace. “Packaging must convey, communicate, and convince,” he said. Sasine suggested there is a massive emerging op- portunity in e-commerce for corrugated packaging and that today, the dominant way to distribute and transport products is via the corrugated box. Thus, packaging companies are tasked with trying to un- derstand how to develop, continuously innovate and manufacture in ways that are more conducive to the needs of retailers and the consumer. “In our modern society, most of what we consume comes from a much larger travel radius than ever be- fore,” said Sasine. “So it’s critical that packaging can convey a product from farm, field and factor y through a distribution network to a point of sale and eventually to a consumer’s home.” Throughout that process, a package needs to com- municate to the channel partners about what it is, where it belongs, how it needs to be shipped or treated and its eventual destination. Those channel partners can be trucking companies, distribution centers,or shipping partners. Convincing Argument Finally, packaging must convince the consumer to buy the product and then it has to also convince the consumer, in the home, to consume the product and eventually go back for a repurchase. Sasine discussed the importance of Millennials and their role in driving changing the way packaging is per- ceived, viewed and consumed.“These folks are coming into their peak buying years, and they’ve grown up with packaging innovation being the normal way things are done,” he said.“This is the first generation that went to soccer practice with Capri Sun pouches. And as a result, what seems modern and unique and individualized is absolutely the normal way things are done. They’ve es- sentially grown up with the expectation that every pur- chase is uniquely for them, right then, in that moment, and not part of building a pantry that they take ingredi- ents from to then cook. That’s a big difference in the way they organize their consumption.” Sasine also discussed how hyper-individualization and the desire for uniqueness and authenticity in many ways drives packaging decisions. Understanding these consumer behaviors, he insisted, is key to dri- ving sales and are critical to success in our industry.
