Yes, I said business, not just a practice. That distinction matters.
Because they’re practical. They’re clear. And they show you how to grow significantly without adding more stress to your life. They also do something you don’t see often. They connect the hygiene side and the operative side of the practice in a way that actually makes sense. And throughout it all, they stay grounded in doing what’s best for the patient.
Most of these books are written by dentists who started exactly where you did, fresh out of school, inexperienced, and eager to do something meaningful. The difference is that they went on to actually do it. They built exceptional practices. In many cases, they ended up in the top 1%–2% of owners. And now, through their writing, they’re essentially handing you the road map. They’re showing you what worked, what didn’t, and how to get there faster, which makes it even more surprising how often this gets ignored. So, I’ve decided I’m going to start sharing some of the books I believe are worth your time. This month, I want to recommend two books by Dr. John Meis and his partner, Wendy Briggs, a hygienist. Together, they run the Team Training Institute, a very successful coaching organization. The books are: • “The Ultimate Guide to Doubling and Tripling Your Practice Production” • “Cracking the Code”
Monthly Rant
Here’s a quote that stuck with me:
“Now, I get to spend my time showing other dentists what took me 30+ years to learn that allowed me to go from earning an income to creating wealth with my dental practice. If you follow this guide, you can go from where you are today to something new and altogether better.” I’ll leave you with just one thought: Why in the world would you not take advantage of that?
What’s one thing that’s almost a fail-safe guarantee about every dentist in the world?
Until next month,
In my opinion, it’s this: You’re a good student. You know how to crack the books and learn what you need to learn. And if that’s true, and I believe it is, then I have to admit, something about this has always puzzled me. Why do so few dentists take advantage of the massive amount of knowledge available on how to build, grow, and scale a successful dental business ?
Why should you read them?
HOW THE DG&E TEAM STEPS IN (Right When Most Dentists Hesitate)
After reading this issue, most dentists arrive at the same place. They can see where things could be better, where value is being left on the table, and where the practice depends too much on them. And once you see that, it’s hard to ignore. But that’s also where things stall. Because clarity without direction creates hesitation. Questions start to build, and instead of moving forward, most go back to the day-to-day. They stay busy and tell themselves they’ll revisit it later. That delay is where opportunity disappears. The practices that grow the most or transition the best don’t wait until they feel ready. They start by getting clear on where they actually stand. As a reader of this newsletter, you’re invited to take a closer look at your practice through a valuation lens, a real assessment of how your practice would be viewed today. It also shows what would need to change if your goals require a different outcome. You can start here: calendly.com/eveythingdso/30min Some owners stop there, and that alone changes how they think. Others want to go further, because once you know where you are, the next question becomes obvious. What would it take to improve this? That’s where a deeper look at your numbers begins to matter. If growth is part of your plan, it makes sense to explore what kind of growth actually fits your goals. Not more activity, but better outcomes. Parthiv Shah

And when decisions involve partnerships, agreements, or transitions, the cost of guessing gets higher. This is where experienced legal guidance matters. Mandelbaum Barrett has helped dentists navigate these moments with clarity and precision. Learn more here: mblawfirm.com At the center of all of this is something simple. The dentists who move forward are the ones who stop guessing and start seeing clearly. Because once you understand your position, the next step becomes much easier. That’s the role of the DG&E team, to help you move forward with confidence. Because most practices don’t fall short from lack of effort. They fall short from lack of clarity.
