Determining The Origins Of Pain

Dry Needling & Acupuncture

Dry Needling is a skilled intervention used by our St. Thomas staff to manage neuromusculoskeletal pain andmovement impairment. It involves the insertion of a thin filament needle into trigger points within body tissue. Trigger points are what most people know as knots or tight spots in a muscle. Repeated advances of the filament needle into a trigger point stimulates the healing process within themuscle resulting in pain relief and restoration of healthy physiology. Research supports that thismodality improves pain control, reduces muscle tension, and facilitates active rehabilitation.

The similar practice of acupuncture is utilized in our Tortola facility. The practice of acupuncture originated in China over 5000 years ago as way to balance the flow of chi through the body. In modern times, scientific studies have supported that acupuncture can be used to treat nearly all sources of muscle and joint pain. It involves inserting small filament needles just below the skin’s surface or even deeper into muscle tissue; helping to clear tension, pain and restore fluid circulation. We have achieved great results by using acupuncture combined with conventional physiotherapy techniques.
