Managing Director of Switch Distribution, Paul Noonan was selected for this award to honour the time and effort he put’s into giving back to his own community. Paul established his own business, ‘Switch Distribution’ with the late Iain O’Brien in 2006, supplying quality electrical solutions to the trade. Paul has been described as “enthusiastic, committed, generous, humble, reliable and friendly”. A founding member of the Lighting Association of Ireland’ which was set up to improve education and standards across the industry, Paul has always found time outside of his career to give back. He has been a sponsor and mentor to many aspiring young athletes, boxers and Paralympians as well as a GAA coach. Paul manages the U15 boys’ team with his local club, Ballinteer St Johns GAA Football team. Furthermore, Paul was a volunteer for ‘Meals & Wheels’ with the Walkinstown Social Service Centre for the elderly during Covid-19. A highly deserving recipient for an Unsung Hero Award, this gentleman is also a fundraiser for the “Support Sean Cox” campaign and is a serving member on the board of Trustees of the Sean Cox Rehabilitation Trust. The Trust is responsible for distributing monies to meet the costs of Sean’s ongoing and future care and rehabilitation.
Many congratulations to John Clare for claiming joint top place in the Special Recognition Award. In 1978, John began his electrical apprenticeship in ANCO, Dundalk and after completing this he set up an electrical contracting business which he successfully managed and ran for a decade. In 1992, he joined RECI as an Electrical Inspector looking after the Meath/Louth and North Dublin region. During this time, he worked with many top quality Registered Electrical Contractors whom he learned so much from during his tenure with RECI. John was then promoted to the role of Chief Inspector of RECI in 2014 and continued in that role until 2020. In 2014, John became a member of the ETCI TC 02 Technical Rules Committee, which has now transferred to the NSAI ETC TC02 Technical Committee. John told Ireland’s Electrical Magazine that he considers it a “privilege” to be involved with this group under the NSAI umbrella. Furthermore, John established his own training company, “John Clare Training Ltd” which provides training on the new NSAI IS10101:2020 Standard. He has also produced, with the help from his three sons and support from friends, a guidebook entitled, “A Practical Guide to the National Rules for Electrical Installation.” Most recently, John has gone full circle by joining an excellent team in DKIT as an Assistant Lecturer where he teaches Phase Four and Phase Six Apprentices.
