This award was made posthumously to a gentleman that was brought to the attention of the judges through the awards entries. Mervyn O’Toole sadly passed away in June 2021 and was an esteemed electrician for Stephen Crean Electrical. Described as a loyal, honest and hardworking colleague, but most importantly a good friend, Mervyn’s determination to ensure that every job was well done could be seen by his fellow workers and customers alike. Mervyn had a special working relationship with apprentices, and they admired and looked up to him. He always went above and beyond to help them out. Mervyn started his electrical apprenticeship in 1992 and would have been 30 years in the industry this year. Mervyn worked on some large hotel refurbishments, taking the site lead for the company. His experience and knowledge were always appreciated in site meetings. In a touching tribute for the awards ceremony, Director of Stephen Crean Electrical, Hannah Crean penned the following: “Mervyn was a great electrician, taken all too soon. We, his colleagues, his wife and children, are lucky to have known such a great electrician and ambassador for the electrical industry. His family would like to thank you for the award, they are very grateful and honoured to receive it.”
