A MESSAGE FROM OUR HEADTEACHER

Schoolastic Book Fair - 25-29 September MacMillan Coffee Morning - 26 September Year 10/11 Information Evening - 26 September

We have continued to welcome parents and carers into school for our Information Evenings. This week the Sixth Form Team hosted Year 12 and Year 13 families. The start of year 12 is a really significant transition point for students and they have impressed us all with their maturity and enthusiasm for their new subjects. Year 13 students are now busy with their applications to university and apprenticeships for next year.

I would like to thank all those who attended the presentations. Next week we look forward to welcoming parents and carers of our Year 10 and Year 11 students into school. On Wednesday some of our Year 8 students had the opportunity to visit the Tower of London. The students were invited following their entry to a national competition to design a bench to mark the coronation. The competition and trip was led by the Design Technology department. We have also arranged two trips to the theatre for our sixth form students; our A Level students really enjoyed seeing Red Pitch at the Bush Theatre, whilst our Drama students are heading to the Jack Studio Theatre to see Colder Than Here . Congratulations to our Year 7 Football team who won our first competitive match of the year, beating Twickenham School 5-2 yesterday. Despite getting absolutely soaked they all had a fabulous time and were excellent ambassadors of the school. We are looking forward to welcoming Year 7 families to our Bingo evening next week. Tickets can be bought via ParentPay. I also wanted to remind parents that the PTA will be holding a Pre-loved Uniform sale on Saturday 30 September between 10-11.30am. Any donations of unwanted uniforms would be very much appreciated, please hand into reception or ask your child to drop into KS Hubs.

As World Mental health day is fast approaching on 10 October, we thought we would share information about a free lunchtime webinar running that day. The positive people from The Art of Brilliance are hosting a live webinar on their YouTube channel about raising your wellbeing bar from ‘mental health’ to ‘mental wealth’. It is totally free to attend and sure to offer a positivity boost. Register here: Art of Brilliance webinar. If you’re not available on 10 October then their short video on the most challenging role of all, parenting, may be of interest instead. Click here to view. A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 11 It has been another busy week for Year 11 students. They have received their Mock exam timetable and will start to prepare for these exams using support from their subject teachers and during tutor time. Our newly appointed Head Girl, Kate, spoke in year 11 assembly this week to launch the feedback form she would like all forms to complete so she has student feedback about school matters to discuss with Mr Sweeney/Ms Dhir and Mrs Bashford-Hynes. The tickets for the sixth form open evening on Thursday 19 October have gone live this week. Please ensure a ticket is booked through this link if you are attending this event. Well done to the following tutor groups who have earned the most epraise points this week: 1st place 11SAS with 59 points; 2nd is 11PON with 46 points; in 3rd place is 11PGC with 41 points. Well done to the Pankhurst and Eliot House Captains who have launched the House System in their first assemblies of the year. Franklin and Seacole will be leading their assemblies next week. Year 11 prefects are engaging really well in their various roles around school. Thank you in advance to the Open Morning and Key Information Evening prefects for their support with these events. Good luck to our Silver DofE students who have set off on their practice expedition today which will last for four days. We look forward to hearing about their time when they return to school on Tuesday. We look forward to seeing Year 11 parents at the Key Information evening on Tuesday 26 September and we hope that you find this to be very informative and useful.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

This book is written from the perspective of Charlie through letter entries, following him and his friends through their challenging navigation through high school and life. It’s a moving and honest story.

MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING

Macmillan Coffee Morning has returned to Waldegrave for another year! On Tuesday 26 September we will be hosting a bake sale in the main hall to raise money for the MacMillan Cancer Charity. We are encouraging students to bake a cake or sweet treat in theme with their house colours. Please remember when baking that nut-based products must be avoided. If you’re not up for baking, you can still come and buy some cakes on the day. Sixth Formers will be invited into the hall at break time whilst Years 7-11 will be allowed to purchase cakes at lunch time, so don’t forget to bring some coins into school! Last year Waldegrave raised £1100 in support of the charity. Let’s try our best to raise even more this year!

Please contact us with any queries or problems you may have.
