rally I believed him and decided to help him all I could. I persuaded W indy to let Casey stay with us until we could get him a job, maybe with the W ild West Show. So Casey stayed and I shared my sleeping quarters with him. It was one of the stalls fixed up like a room. I got him a new pair of Levis, a shirt and gave him a pair of my old boots that still had a lot of wear in them. And I let him wear one of my hats. It was a little big for him, but we made it fit by putting some folded paper under the sweat band. He looked pretty good and seemed happy after he was cleaned up and dressed like a cowboy. I let him help me clean out the stables and walk some of the horses after W indy had ridden them for exercise. After a few days I even let him ride my horse, Deerfoot, around the arena track. I mada it a matter of prayer, know ing God was the only one to whom I could really look for help. Casey was quite surprised when he saw a Bible on the little table beside my cot. I asked him to join me in reading it and praying before going to bed. One night we got to ta l k ing about cowboys and the West. He wanted to know if all cowboys carried a gun. I told him they didn’t, nor did they all carry a Bible, but that I preferred to carry a Bible instead of a gun. He wanted to know why, so I told him that I’d seen too many men get into trouble, even killed, carrying a gun, but that I’d never seen anyone get into trouble carrying a Bible. It was about two weeks after he first came that I got the shock of my life. All along he had been fool ing me, lying to me, and I didn’t know it. There was to be a supper for men at a local church followed by a talk given by a man who had once been an outlaw and was now an evange list. He was to give his life story and tell how different things had been since he had become a Chris tian. I planned to go and wanted Casey to go along. But he excused
