the Sheriff as soon as he got the chance. However, by the time he did, the stage had come and gone, with Casey on it. Jake put my horse in the bam. I ate my supper, and after resting for a couple of hours, we were on our way back to Frontier Park. About a week passed before Casey was brought back to Chey enne. Meantime, the Laramie Sher iff had found out where he was from and had notified his parents. His father caught the first train he could and came to Cheyenne to be of whatever help he could to his boy. After seeing the Sheriff, he came out to Frontier Park to talk to me. He told me the true story about Casey. Seems as how Casey’s folks were faithful Christians and went to Sunday school and church regu larly. But Casey wanted to be dif ferent. He got in with bad com pany, and one thing led to another until he was caught stealing. You can imagine how his parents felt when the police called one day tell ing them their boy was in jail. Be cause it was his first arrest, the judge let him off easy. Well, you’d think he would have been thankful for another chance. But Casey had a stubborn streak in him and in stead of being thankful he ran away from home. He had gone from place to place until the evening he wear ily trudged through the big gate at Frontier Park. I felt real sorry for Casey’s fa ther as he told me about his son. “Mr. Wilknott,” I said, “ it must be pretty rough when your own chil dren aré disobedient and ungrate ful. I’ve been praying for your son. I won’t press charges of horse steal ing against your son and I’ll do all I can to get him released.” Then we had prayer together and the father returned to Cheyenne to wait for his son. That evening I got a call from the Sheriff’s office asking me to come over. I found not only Casey hut his father and the Sheriff all waiting for me. I had no more than stepped inside the door when Casey came over to me and started crying and telling me how very sorry he was for what he’d done, and asked my forgiveness. “ Casey,” I said, trying to be rather stem, “ although it is not easy for pie to forgive you for what
