AI-powered compliance checks : Automatically com- pare artwork against defined requirements to identify missing, incorrect, or non-compliant content. Reusable, living rulebooks : Turn existing compliance knowledge, guidelines, and requirements into codified rules that can be continually updated and shared across teams. Workflow integration : For WebCenter customers, run AI rulebooks and compliance checks directly within existing packaging workflows and against packaging data stored in WebCenter. Standalone deployment : Organizations can also use Verify Comply independently, accessing the same intelli- gent quality checks without requiring WebCenter. Siegwerk Granted Deinking Patent Siegwerk, a global provider of printing inks and coatings for packaging applications and labels, has secured a new European patent, marking another step in its develop- ment of deinking solutions for plastic packaging recycling (EP4107326). The patent protects a primer technology that enables printing inks not deinkable by commercially used condi-

Designed as a practical entry point into paper pack- aging, the solution allows brand owners to increase renewable material content and test paper-based formats in demanding applications, while the primary packaging continues to safeguard product integrity. “As packaging legislation, such as EU PPWR, evolve globally, brand owners need practical ways to reduce plastic without compromising performance. To- gether with Uteco and Siegwerk, we have shown that paper content can be increased to up to 90 percent in such packaging, while maintaining the performance required for demanding applications,” said Marco Tra- montano, Sales Director, UPM Specialty Materials. Critical Role Designed for brand owners, converters and ma- chine builders, the solution combines UPM barrier base paper with Siegwerk’s CIRKIT BAR SEAL coating, precisely applied using Uteco’s high-definition flex- ographic technology to deliver moisture and grease resistance, heat sealing and recyclability through stan- dard paper recycling streams (CEPI/4evergreen v2). “Coatings play a critical role in enabling the next generation of paper packaging,” said Gilles Le Moigne, Head of Circular Economy Coatings at Siegwerk. “By applying our CIRKIT BAR SEAL technology onto UPM's barrier paper using Uteco’s advanced flexographic process, we have created a recyclable paper-based solution that delivers the functional performance con- verters and brand owners expect. This project shows how innovation in coatings can help unlock new op- portunities for reducing dependence on fossil-based packaging materials.”

tions to be removed from plastic substrates during recy- cling, including more complex printed flexible packaging structures. The patented technology covers solvent-based and water-based deinking primer technologies, while Siegwerk’s broader deinking portfolio also includes solu- tions for UV printing applications. The grant comes as Europe is raising requirements for recycling plastic packaging. Under the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), plastic packaging will need to include minimum shares of post-consumer re- cycled material from 2030, increasing the need for clean, high-quality recyclates. According to CEFLEX, around 2.5 million tons of flexible packaging-derived post-consumer recyclate will be required by 2030 to meet PPWR recy- cled-content targets for flexible packaging alone. Effective ink removal can help improve recyclate quality by reduc- ing discoloration, odor and contamination.
