o f His fullness we all may receive. He re ceived o f the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, that He might pour Him forth in Pentecostal fullness. . . Let us diligently comprehend all the fullness o f our inheritance in Jesus: and then let us go forward to apprehend it by faith. Whatever He has in trust for us, let us claim it! Let us receive the abun dance of His grace, that we may reign in this life through the one M an! Let us be lieve that we receive, and reckon on it, living in the power o f what we may not feel, but know we have, so acting faith. B. M eyer . that the Creator Himself alone is better than the sum total o f creation. Is it not strange how, to this day, our spirits rise and fall with circumstances? Like little foolish children, our delights and our sor rows are in mere appearances, and in the sensations which appearances produce. Hear what Jesus said: “ Have faith in God.” . . . Faith, in its early stages, has to do with God’s W ord only; it believes what the W ord says, and takes what the W ord offers; but, as it grows stronger, it has to do with God Himself. It prizes more than ever what God has written, dis covers more and more o f God’s character from God’s own writings; but at last it comes to “ riches o f the full assurance of understanding” of God Himself. Faith, in its infancy, is like taking -the word of a stranger; but in its maturity, it is like leaning on the bosom o f a dear Friend. —H. B. M acartney . M AY 24 A ppropriation “Joshua took the whole land . . . and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Is rael, according to their divisions by their tribes” (Josh. 11:23). How perfectly is this type fulfilled in our blessed Lord! To Him as the trustee and representative of His people has all spiritual blessing been given, and He holds it for us to claim. All power is given to Him in heaven and on earth, that He might give us authority over all the power of the enemy. The Father has given Him to have life in Himself, that He might give us life more abundantly. He is full o f grace and truth, that out

moved it ; and that some of its stories were just traditional fables, I cut them out. And if I had had another year under you, I think I should have had the two covers, and nothing else.”— H ubert B rooke .

“ Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in’’ (Luke 14: 23). Hear your commission, O child o f the Master; Friend and disciple of Jesus, take heed. How are you doing the work o f the Fa ther? How are you caring for hunger and need ? Go to the sheep that are scattered and fainting, Having no shepherd to tell them to com e; Go to the highways and tell every creature, Still the feast waiteth and yet there is room. — A nnie J ohnson F lint . M AY 23 M ature F aith “Have faith in God’’ (Mk. 11:22). Unbelief is almost universal. It is the great malady o f the human heart. W e seem as if we could trust any one but God. W e build our hope on some great internal im provement taking place within ourselves —on money, on men o f power; we feel about as men feel in the dark and under water—groping for something they know not what, and grasping at everything that comes to hand, until God causes the things on which we have relied to perish one by one, that we may learn that God is God,

Oh, sad example! Is it only he ? Or are there many who so follow on the Sav iour’s footsteps, a thousand objects inter vening? They mean to go after Him, but they find it convenient to mingle with His enemies by the w ay; they have been chosen to be His companions, but they draw back, and sit down with servants in an outer room. Enjoying little o f His presence, con templating little His example, rather de sirous of avoiding the peculiar character istics o f His people, to pass unnoticed by the world, these distant followers of their blessed Lord, like the far planets of our sphere, whose frigid orbs the solar beam scarce lightens, go darkly and coldly on their way, hardly evincing what they are or whose. And what comes of it? The same that came to Peter.
