O N September 4, 1947, the Bible In stitute of Los Angeles opened its thirty-ninth year with the largest en rollment in its history—900. Because of lack of space, again hundreds of earnest young Christian men and women were turned away. The new arrivals represent 30 states, 7 foreign countries and 13 denomi nations. Those entering the School of Missionary Medicine are graduates of 13 different colleges and Bible Schools throughout the country. One-third of the 1947 class are World War II vet erans. This class promises to be one of the brightest, liveliest, and most consecrated groups ever to enter the halls of Biola. Among the new appointments is that of Mr. James R. Allder, who has been for years Business Manager of the Bible Institute, to the position of Executive Vice-President, and two new Board mem bers, Mr. Sylvester Marshburn and Dr. Ward Altig, ’27. All friends of the school will rejoice that Mr. Allder has been so honored, and that his efficient and in valuable services will be thus extended. One of his first duties was to accom pany Dr. Louis T. Talbot, President of Biola, on an official business trip to the Hunan Bible Institute of Changsha, Hu nan, China, the Chinese branch of Biola. Dr. Talbot and Mr. Allder left by Clipper Monday, September 8. They attended an im portan t conference of mission leaders in China, and brought back the “inside story” of the missionary enter prise in that very needy land which ap pears elsewhere in this issue. Prayer is requested for Biola, its offi cers, its faculty, and its students, that God’s purpose in and through them may be accomplished for His glory.
