That homegrown technology is now finding another Tasmanian application. Hospitality Tasmania is using EventLab in the planning and delivery of the 2026 Awards for Excellence, bringing the platform into an event which itself requires months of preparation before hundreds of people arrive at MAC 02 on September 30. Hospitality Tasmania Events Manager Amy Groves- Bosworth said the platform had provided a central point for managing the many elements involved in bringing the awards together. “Our Awards for Excellence has a huge number of moving parts behind the scenes, and they are constantly evolving as you get closer to the night,” she says. “Having one place where we can bring that information together and keep the team working from the latest version makes the planning process so much easier. “There is also something really fitting about using a platform developed here in Tasmania by people who understand events. For EventLab, what began as a way for two Tasmanian festival producers to make their own lives easier has revealed a much bigger opportunity. The spreadsheets, email chains and disconnected systems were not uniquely Tasmanian problems. As EventLab began reaching more event professionals, its creators discovered the same frustrations existed well beyond the island. “As the product grew, it became clear this wasn’t just an Australian problem - event organisers everywhere run into the same mess of disconnected tools,” Stoneman says. “We’ve had real uptake in the US, and it’s the exact same story there: people telling us this is what they’ve been trying to find for how their team operates for a long time.”
It is an appropriately Tasmanian origin story.
Two people who knew the problem because they had spent years living it. A software engineer capable of building the solution. And an idea that began behind the scenes of local festivals now looking well beyond Tasmania. EventLab was not built by outsiders trying to imagine how events work. It was built by the people who were already living it.
