Out and about on the North West & West Coast: conversations, connections and GCE There’s something special about spending time on the road across Tasmania’s North West & West Coast. Every journey tells a different story, every business has its own personality, and every visit is another opportunity to celebrate the passionate people who make our region such a welcoming destination. The past couple of months have certainly kept Gena busy, travelling from one end of the coast to the other, catching up with familiar faces, meeting new business owners and completing Great Customer Experience (GCE) Business Health Checks. While every business is unique, one thing they all have in common is a genuine commitment to creating memorable experiences for their customers. One of her first stops was with Josh at Buttons Brewing in Ulverstone, where great conversation flowed as easily as the craft beer, and they shared plenty of laughs while discussing the exciting future of the business. In Burnie, Gena had the pleasure of meeting Sharree, one of the new owners at Infuse Coffee Roasters. It was wonderful to hear her fresh ideas and enthusiasm as the business begins its next chapter, while also talking through some of the everyday challenges that come with running a busy coffee bar. A visit to Devonport to catch up with Craig and Deb at Barclay Motor Inn followed. As always, the conversation quickly moved from friendly banter to thoughtful discussions about the tourism landscape, staffing and the importance of making every guest feel genuinely welcome from the
moment they arrive. Then it was time to head back down the West Coast to spend time with Ryan and the team at Tullah Lakeside Lodge. Nestled beside the lake, their warm hospitality perfectly reflects the spirit of the West Coast, and it was fantastic to hear about what’s happening in the region while exploring ways Hospitality Tasmania can continue to support their team. Gena completed the valuable GCE Venue Awareness session with the team while there. The return journey north included a stop at Wattle Hill Olive Grove to see Trish and Emily, where innovation continues to flourish alongside some of Tasmania’s finest produce.

Following this was a visit to the beautiful Tasmanian Arboretum for a tour and a chat with Alan, who showed the peaceful surrounds which continue to impress visitors from near and far while showcasing one of the region’s true natural treasures. Gena’s highlight was seeing the number of native platypus in the dams.
