Do you feel being a wom- an is an advantage, disad- vantage or no advantage in today’s business world? Why? Why not? I think it’s a great advan - tage. CRE is a creative, dy - namic industry that requires diversity of thought. I like to think that I, and women generally, bring to the table an alternative perspective to collaboration, problem solv - ing, and deal making. It has taken me years to grow my voice, but as I continue to gain reps and confidence, I’ve found that my approach helps me to bridge gaps and forge

ell us how and when you began your ca- reer in the profession you are in: My first job out of college was completely unrelated to real estate – I worked for a health - care finance consultancy in San Francisco. For me, the great - est part about consulting was that I had very early exposure to complex problem solving, large team management, and the c-suite, both on the client end and internally. However, consulting felt like an intan - gible business. I often did not see the fruits of my labor as we would provide our process recommendations to clients and then move onto the next project before our efforts were implemented. While I learned a lot during my four+ consult - ing years, I decided to pursue an MBA with the intention of switching over to real estate development, an industry with a tangible end-product. My husband, Ryan, and I met 11 years ago in business school, and we have been mar - ried for almost six years. He is also in the industry – we ac - tually ran against each other for president of our MBA real estate club – so we are con - stantly bouncing ideas off of each other while also raising our two young daughters. We are living and loving the New Jersey suburban life – be - tween work and family, I feel really content and fulfilled. What inspiring word of advice would you give to a young woman about to go into the field of com - mercial real estate or your allied field? Be yourself, and own it. MAREJ
