Mpho Mookapele, SAICA Top 35-Under-35 winner
An excelling alumna of the University of Johannesburg (UJ), Mpho Mookapele, emerged the overall winner of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA)’s 2019 Top-35-Under-35, announced in September last year. Mpho is the Chief Financial Officer and Acting Chief Executive Officer at Energy and Water SETA. She obtained her BCom Accounting degree at UJ in 2006 and has since continued to do well in her profession. In the SAICA competition, she faced stiff competition from the young executives representing various commercial companies. As a reward, UJ offered Mpho a 100% discount on her course fees for the new online
short-learning programmes, namely 4IR for Accountants and Introducing Integrated Reporting for Accountants. “It is critical for all accountants to do these courses in order to stay relevant and be leaders in a rapidly changing environment,” said Mpho, adding, “I really appreciate the diverse expertise and fields to which the CA profession exposes us. All the Top-35-Under-35 candidates are in diverse fields and doing great things.” To students who are inspired by her success and academic ambitions, she said, “Know your purpose, take hold of it and wake up each day to live it regardless of what comes your way.”
I REALLY APPRECIATE THE DIVERSE EXPERTISE AND FIELDS TO WHICH THE CA PROFESSION EXPOSES US. ALL THE TOP-35-UNDER-35 CANDIDATES ARE IN DIVERSE FIELDS AND DOING GREAT THINGS.”
