Conservation of our natural resources is a staple aspect of Indiana County. Our vast agricultural landscape, stunning forests, and numerous waterways all contribute to the uniqueness of our region and promote a high quality of life, sustainable economy, and endless opportunities for tourism. Our precious resources are maintained and improved by the dedicated efforts of grassroots conservation organizations like the Indiana County Conservation District, Evergreen Conservancy, and other local watershed associations. These organizations work to address resource concerns like abandoned mine drainage, coal refuse piles, sediment and nutrient pollution from agricultural operations, and stormwater. Existing and new conservation programs will inject millions of dollars in funding into our community to install practices that improve our use of the land while reducing our impact on the environment. Rivers like Blacklick Creek will once again abound with wildlife and recreational opportunities. Conservation ensures our future in Indiana County will be healthy and sustainable.
