NI BASED MEP CONTRACTORS COMPLETE CITY OF LONDON COMMERCIAL PROJECT… MICHAEL NUGENT LTD COMPLETE MEP SERVICES AT FORMER GIN DISTILLERY

W orking closely with Main Contractors GRAHAM, Michael Nugent Ltd provided a complex MEP installation for the Laser House redevelopment project in London’s fashionable Clerkenwell district. Formally a printing press and gin distillery, the 1960’s property has been transformed into a new creative hub, following a £15m redevelopment programme. Headquartered in Pomeroy, Michael Nugent Ltd has a wealth of commercial experience working with GRAHAM, and were delighted to have worked on the 88,000 sq ft, project together. MECHANICAL Michael Nugent Ltd were asked to develop, design and install the mechanical

services suitable and with respect to an open plan, CAT A office design set within an existing heritage building. The main design objectives were to accommodate a spilt tenancy arrangement on each floor level, while routing exposed services through the building and achieving the selected fit-out strategy. The mechanical installation comprised of the following services: LTHW heating system, mains water services, boosted cold water services, domestic hot water services, water treatment system, gas installation, fresh and exhaust air ventilation systems, smoke control ventilation, VRF air conditioning, under- floor air conditioning and automatic controls and building management system.

One of the main challenges Michael Nugent Ltd had to overcome was to install and route their services through the existing building due to the limited-service zones and the client’s requirement for an open plan fit-out strategy. This was facilitated by working in collaboration with its BIM team to ensure that all services were fully co- ordinated to meet the client’s vision and expectations. On this project Michael Nugent Ltd installed underfloor air conditioning systems on the main tenant floors, which allowed for the plenum beneath the raised access floors to be used as ventilation zones instead of traditional ceiling-based air conditioning units.
