PROJECT

LASER HOUSE, LONDON

all ceiling-based ductwork and services to maximise ceiling heights within the open plan office spaces. Underfloor air conditioning systems will improve thermal comfort within the building by allowing individual occupants to control their local thermal environment while also improving efficiency, indoor air quality and reducing building life-cycle costs. ELECTRICAL Michael Nugent Ltd installed a completely new LV distribution system throughout the building from the basement up to fifth roof plant level. The general and emergency lighting package is Dali controlled in most areas with automatic detection utilised to ensure lighting only operated on presence detection. Power and data requirements included fibre backbone to tenant spaces. The fire alarm installation uses an addressable system with under-floor detection and air aspiration system installed where appropriate. Security and access control systems

were installed allowing monitoring and limitation to access throughout the building. Also included was a lightning protection system. As a large part of the building was existing, the electrical team had to work closely with the main contractor to co-ordinate systems keeping inline with architect expectations. Services were mostly exposed so all contractors adapted attention to detail. Lighting was designed with LED and daylight dimming where natural light wasn’t available. Auto detection of lights will ensure limited operating time. Commenting on the completed project, Mechanical Project Manager, Sean Mallon said, “Being part of the Laser House project from start to finish has been very satisfying. It is great to see the project through from commencement, the commissioning stage and finally, completion. I have gained great new skills and knowledge by overcoming the complex installation of underfloor air conditioning systems.”

“…underfloor air conditioning systems enabled the plenum beneath the raised access floors to be used as ventilation zones instead of traditional ceiling-based air conditioning units.”
