How We Tour the Wild West

This summer, we plan to go to Grand Teton again and visit spots like Hidden Falls. When you go in the fall, you can hear the elk bugling. If you like to view wildlife, you’ll often have a better chance at Grand Teton, where we’ve seen elk, deer, and bears. In Yellowstone, there are more buffalo and eagles, and when it’s earlier in the spring, you may see wolves. Old Faithful is there too, keeping to her schedule every hour, on the hour. It’s enriching to participate in these unique moments that nature gives us.

Following our snow-filled winters, summer is a season I welcome. Jeanelle and I hope to enjoy the next few months in the outdoors with weekend camping trips, hiking, and touring our corner of the West. People travel from all over the world to visit some of the locations we are fortunate enough to live nearby — including Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks — and we make every effort to enjoy our proximity to these landscapes.

Nature. It’s not as if you’re looking up to a neighboring mountain range. It’s just you and a vast expanse of wilderness. Two of our close friends joined us on the road as we made our way through Wyoming into Yellowstone. We really enjoyed the ride. Our adventures included riding through a rain storm — fortunately, we had our wet gear with us — and riding alongside herds of buffalo. At 11,000 feet, we had a snowball fight in the middle of July. It was very enjoyable and allowed Jeanelle and I to reconnect with people who are dear to us. Because I don’t motorcycle enough to justify owning one, we rented a touring bike from Harley Davidson. I used to race snowmobiles and motorcycles in Canada, but that was 100 years ago — or, at least, when I was in my teens. I obey the speed limit now.

In the summertime, we enjoy the beautiful area and the people. When we get outside for a weekend to appreciate our natural surroundings,

it reminds us of the world’s natural grandeur. There’s so much to enjoy and see, and viewing it with those you care about is a wonderful experience. If you can get away for a weekend, or even a day, go out and enjoy our beautiful Western wilderness. It’s all around us.

Last July, Jeanelle and I went on a motorcycle trip through Beartooth Pass. We had four days to wind through it, which took us into West Yellowstone, parts of Idaho, and through the northeast entrance of Yellowstone. If you’ve never seen it, it’s an awe-inspiring journey. You’ll view wildlife, breathtaking vistas, and yes — snow in July! The multiple switchbacks also kept

The Best Time to Book a Flight In case you haven’t noticed, Still, a $600 summer flight to Honolulu isn’t exactly pocket change. What’s worse, flight prices are slippery; CheapAir.com’s 2017

traveling is expensive . It can feel like you’re signing away your soul when you sit down to plan a vacation.

Annual Airfare Study determined that the fares for any given trip go up or down an average of 71 times, about $33 each shift. When you purchase your flight is nearly as important as where you’re going. But how do you choose a booking window that will maximize your savings? According to the CheapAir.com study, in which they evaluated 921 million airfares, the best time to book is 21–105 days in advance of your flight, on average. If you want to get even more specific, try to book 55–75 days out, and book on a Sunday. Many travelers swear by Tuesday and Wednesday bookings, but as Condé Nast Traveler reports, Expedia and the Airlines Reporting Corporation say that Sunday is the way to go, based on data from billions of flights. Tuesday and Wednesday are usually the cheapest days to actually fly, though. The CheapAir.com study also pinpoints the absolute best windows for specific seasons: 54 days for winter trips, 75 days for spring, 76 days for summer, and 45 days for fall. Of course, these are averages, but if you stick to these rules and check fares regularly on sites like Kayak.com, SkyScanner.com, Momondo.com, and on the handy app Hopper, you can rest easy knowing you’re getting close to the best price possible.

But when it comes to flights, there’s good

news: They’re getting cheaper!

According to a 2017 report published by online travel company ODIGEO, long-distance trips across Europe fell 7 percent last year. Luckily, the same trend is reflected in

North American airlines as they engage in a price war to woo a growing base of ultrafrugal travelers.

How TruDenta Has Benefited Our Patients and Our Dentists Sometimes people can be skeptical of a new treatment, which is understandable. When someone claims that a new remedy will solve all your problems, it can feel like they’re trying to sell you on a magic pill. That’s why education and research are so important, and it’s part of the reason Livingston Dental added the TruDenta treatment program to our services. “What I’ve enjoyed are the personal benefits and process of learning about treatment modality — sports medicine with dental appliances,” says Dr. Livingston. “It’s relieved the clicking in the joints that I had. I don’t feel a soreness in the jaw when I rise in the morning. I’ve seen the benefits myself — my neck feels healthier, and I have more range of motion.”

Dr. Livingston has also seen how it’s improved many patients’ quality of life. “People are able to return to a normal life. Some have been able to discontinue medications for migraines and pain,” Dr. Livingston says. As one of only two dental clinics in the state to provide TruDenta, our office is eager to help educate others about the life-changing effects this treatment can bring. Call our office today to learn more and see why our dentists are even fans of TruDenta.

It’s estimated that 25 million people suffer from teeth grinding, or bruxism. That nightly impact on the teeth can lead to headaches, jaw pain, and other painful issues, and we’ve been researching ways to ease these problems for our patients. That’s where TruDenta came in. After listening to a presentation about the treatment, we knew it was what we’d been looking for. As we shared in our last edition, TruDenta combines sports medicine with dental care to treat patients who are suffering from jaw and head pain. Part of the treatment plan includes massage therapy performed by our TruDenta certified massage therapist, Shelbi, which targets the headache muscles to help ease tension. TruDenta has been successful for many of our patients in relieving headaches and jaw-related issues, including our very own dentist, Dr. Livingston. What does Dr. Livingston think of the treatment?

Keeping Ourselves Educated What We Brought Home From the Utah Dental Convention

with us. We currently have a cold laser at our practice, and after this lecture, we plan to bring in a soft tissue laser.

Did you know that in the state of Wyoming, there are no continuing education requirements for dentists? It’s a sad state of affairs, but it does not keep our office from making continuing education a core part of our practice. From our early days, Livingston Dental made ongoing education for our staff an essential part of providing and maintaining a standard of excellence to our patients. Education matters because you can’t diagnose what you don’t know, what you don’t see, and what you don’t understand. As intensive as dental school is, it’s impossible to learn everything in four years, especially with constant improvements to technology. When you attend trainings or conferences, you find out how well you’re doing, and you also find out how well you’re not doing. If we don’t challenge ourselves to learn about new diagnostic methods and treatments, how can we ever expect to provide the best to our patients? That’s why, in early May, our staff went to the Utah Dental Convention in Salt Lake City to improve our current skills as a professional team. We were fortunate to hear from recognized lecturers in the dental community and we enjoyed a variety of speakers. Among those, a lecture conducted by Dr. William Chan opened up our practice to the benefits of laser dentistry. Dr. Chan has been working with lasers for over 30 years, and he shared information about soft tissue lasers

Dr. Chan’s full-day lecture included trainings with different technology, and we were grateful to learn from him. It’s wonderful to have technology, but you need the corresponding training to optimize it. Just like a

car isn’t any good if you don’t know how to drive it, the latest dental technology will only benefit our patients if we are trained and skilled in using it. We’re grateful we had the opportunity to learn and add to our skills, and we look forward to sharing this new technology with you!

3 Fathers Who Risked It All for Their Kids

3 Awesome Dads This Father’s Day, thousands of dads will receive a “No. 1 Dad” mug to sip coffee out of at the office. But the following dads took that “No. 1” to a new level. BRIAN MUNN GAVE HIS SON A LIVER TRANSPLANT. When doctors discovered that baby Caleb Munn had a rare disease called biliary atresia, they told his parents that he was unlikely to survive past age 2 without a liver transplant. Luckily, his father was a perfect match, and he eagerly donated part of his liver in March 2015 to save his son’s life. GREG ALEXANDER BATTLED A BEAR FOR HIS SON’S LIFE. Without hesitation, he kicked the beast in the side, and when that didn’t work, he leapt onto its back and started punching it in the face. When the bear finally released Gabriel, Greg threw rocks until it fled. His son was hurt but made a full recovery in the hospital over the coming weeks. ARTUR MAGOMEDOV SAVED HIS DAUGHTERS FROM ISIS.
