You have read stories of people bowing down be fore an earth ly king. T hat is really rendering him worship, or “worth-ship.” The heathens, you know, bow down and worship all so rts o$ idols of wood, stone, silver, iron and gold. Some heathen worship the sun, moon and stars. Others worship animals of dif feren t kinds. They bring th e idols gifts of food and silver and gold, and then bow down before them and ask for th eir help. In th is country we have the Bible and we know th a t an idol which has been made by some man cannot help u s; th a t they are ju s t’ wood or stone, or w h at ever they may be made of, and cannot h ear w ith th e ir ears or see w ith th eir eyes. The Bible tells us, too, WHOM we ought to worship, and HOW to wor ship Him. So Jesus answered th e woman (v. 23). “True worshippers ought to worship the F ath e r in Spirit and in tru th , for the F a th e r seeketh such to worship H im .” Whom did Jesu s mean when He spoke of the “F a th e r” ? God made all men, and so He is the C reator of all men, but He is not the F a th e r of all men. He is

(TO THE T E A C H E R B e f o r e going on to the story of “The Healing of the Nobleman’s Son,” we have though t it well to go back to the verses in th is .4th chapter dealing w ith/worship [19 -24 ]). While it may seem a little deep for children, yet it is fundam ental, and gives an opportunity to emphasize the necessity of th e new birth. Never he afraid of repetition. Ask questions which will compel th e children to give answers which will make clear to them the meaning of th e new birth. The Gospel of John, while wonderfully deep is also wonderfully simple. If you make th is one lesSon plain to th e class, you will have accomplished a great work, though you may never see the children again.) While Jesus was talk ing w ith the woman a t the well, she asked Him where God ought to be worshipped— in the mountain near by, or in Jeru - alem. Does any one know th e meaning of th e word “worship” ? It really means “worthship,” or giving honor to some. THE JUNIORS A HAPPY FAMILY John 4:19-24
