THE K I N G ’ S B U S I N E S S

way from earth to heaven, needs— must have— the B read of Life. The be liever m ust appropriate Christ’s life. He has provided th e way. We take the food th rough th e Word of God, by faith. This Bread is a g ift (v. 32). It, is abundan t; all-sufficient; heavenly in origin; life-giving in power; universal in application (1 Tim. 1 :15 ;; 1 John, 2 : 2 ). (4) THE*WASTE OF L IFE , vs. 36-40. “Ye have seen me, and believe no t.” The waste of life consists in failing to take the food provided— rejecting Christ. They m ight have had eternal life, b u t would not. They saw, bu t be lieved not. Think of th e eternal loss fo r those who reject Jesus Christ! Think of the loss to Christian life because we do not tak e of His fulness! We lose! He loses! The world loses! The illu stration is found in th e manna which came down from Heaven (vs. 31-33). It was (1) God’s g ift; (2) abundant; (3) mysterious; (4 ) no

monopoly; (5) daily; (6) never failed; (7 ) must be gathered; (8) always th e same. The work of Christ is— re st fo r the conscience; the person of Christ— the object of our h ea rt; th e word of Christ -—the guide for our feet. We have ta u g h t in these verses in the most definite way, the assurance of sal vation: “E ndu reth unto life etern al” (v. 27) “He will in ho wise cast ou t” (v. 37). “ Of all which th e F ath e r h ath given me, I should lose noth ing” (v. 39) “Raise * * * up again a t the last day” (v. 39). “Everyone th a t believeth” (v. 40). “Will raise him up” (v. 40). %;“Will raise him up ” (v. 44). “H ath everlasting life” (v. 47). .“Eat, and no t die” (v. 50). “Live forever” (v. 51). “H ath eternal life” (v. 54). “Will raise him up a t the last day” , (v. 54). “Shall live forever” (v. 58). “Never hung er” (v. 35). “Never th irs t” (v. 35).
