Year In Review, Part I: Machine Investments, Acquisitions Surge BY LEN PRAZYCH As the year 2022 draws to a close, Board Converting News once again recaps the “year that was” in the North American corrugated and folding carton industries. Paul Aliprando, Industry Veteran, Leader & Mentor, To Retire From SUN Our industry is driven by the people committed to making it better. Through positive periods and pandemics alike, we are grateful for the industry veterans who have dedi- cated years to leadership and mentorship. Paul Aliprando,
With over 30 years of experience in the corrugated in- dustry, Paul had the knowledge and expertise to empower customers and co-workers alike. He was driven to always find the best solutions in the market, and his character shined through with everyone he worked with. Paul was key in fostering a relationship between SUN and Domino North America, a partnership that showcases the benefits of digital converting solutions. “I work with many partners in many markets, but SUN is the best partner I’ve ever worked with. I give a lot of that credit to working with Paul,” said Matt Condon, Busi- ness Development Manager at Domino. “From a personal point of view, he is a humble and knowledgeable man who brings a lot of trust to anyone he works with. He’s touched the corrugated industry in a really positive manner. I wish him the absolute best of luck in retirement.” Paul’s positive and lasting impression on the corrugat- ed industry is evident, both in what he’s accomplished and in the respect he receives from everyone he interacts with. “Paul is a tireless champion when it comes to identifying root causes and developing solutions to improve industry and customer-specific converting challenges. His legacy will be his passion for the industry and for our customers,” said Chris Kyger, President at SUN. “It was never a job for Paul, he loved rolling up his sleeves and climbing over and under converting machinery. Positive Reasons For Making A Career Change During The Holiday Season BY TERESA HUNDT
Many people can be hesitant to look for a change and make career deci- sions around Thanksgiving, Christmas, or the New Year for many reasons
– most being fears surrounding a change in income when we’re spending more on gifts and/or travel as well as potentially missing out on bonuses that pay out in December or Jan- uary. Whatever the reason for hesitancy, I rec- ommend moving past it and keeping an open mind for new opportunities. The end of the year is a great time to start seeing what options are available. There is

this myth out there that no business gets done or no one hires during the holiday season, but in the corrugated industry that’s far from true. This industry is essential, and things certainly don’t slow down for us. The reasons why I recommend keeping an open mind: • Lay the groundwork now so that you can start the New Year off on a new and exciting foot. Just because you start job-hunting in Novem- ber doesn’t mean that you can’t start your new job in January. If a company wants you, they’ll accommodate your delayed start date. In my eight years as a recruiter, I’ve negotiated these many times. • Budgets are being set for the new year, so compensation concerns aren’t an issue – you may even be able to negotiate a better salary. • It’s also easier to get time off work to get to interviews during the hol- iday season because time off can easily be seen as using up vacation time before you lose it. • As far as missing out on potential bonuses, that can be said for leaving any time during the year. If you leave in September, you’re still walking away from a potential bonus that you worked nine months for. Instead of focusing on what you’re losing, focus on what you’re gaining. • There’s not a shortage of job openings in the corrugated industry during the holidays. Our firm is just as busy filling openings in the 4th quarter as we were in the other three. Actually, our busiest quarters have been Q1 and Q4 in 2022. I’m not recommending that the end of the year is the best time for ev- eryone to make career changes in all cases. For many, it’s not. The best time of the year to make a move is deeply personal and looks different for each person. What I am recommending is that you don’t eliminate the possibility just because it’s the holiday season and based on the myth that nothing happens. I’m recommending that if the right opportunity presents itself to you, it’s in your best interest to simply learn more. And in order to learn more, you need to have a conversation with the hiring manager. Only then can you make the best decision for yourself and your family. If you’d like to learn more about the opportunities we have available, please reach out to me at teresa@obergassociates.com. I’d be more than happy to share more insights with you and help you review your options. Teresa Hundt is a Senior Associate/Head of Training at Oberg and As- sociates.

Koenig & Bauer, Celmacch Partner To Expand Corrugated Portfolio With the recent acquisition of 49 percent of its shares in the Celmacch Group S.r.l., a leading Italian manufacturer of high-board line flexo presses and rotary die cutters for the corrugated industry, Koenig & Bauer believes it has stregthened its leadership in the corrugated market. The new partnership, which is known as Koenig & Bauer Cel- macch, expands the Koenig & Bauer Group's extensive portfolio and will now include its ChromaCUT X Pro as well as Celmacch’s line of well known equipment including its two die cutters: the ChromaCUT High Tech and Chroma- CUT Smart. The new firm’s management team have been visiting customers and attending trade shows to celebrate this new partnership. Rodolfo Celotti, founder of Celmacch Group, and Luca Celotti, general manager of Koenig & Bauer Celmacch arrived from Italy to greet attendees at CorrExpo Corrugated Week 2022 in late September 2022 in San Antonio. “This partnership is providing positive energy in the market and opening many doors for us to display our com- plete line of equipment,” said Tom Fitzgerald, Director of Koenig & Bauer’s corrugated and post press products. “With Koenig & Bauer’s wide network around the world, this new partnership blends the strength of Koenig & Bau- er’s global leadership with its own foothold in the corrugat- ed printing and converting markets and our presses that are widely known for highly productive production of rota- ry die cut boxes and printed corrugated sheets along with Celmacch’s fine reputation in the corrugated market. This collaboration will bring additional corrugated machinery solutions to customers, especially in the North American market. In fact, this is our strongest year yet.” The ChromaCUT X Pro rotary die cutter for corrugated board is Koenig & Bauer Celmacch’s top-of-the-range ro- tary die cutter. It has been designed for the highest-perfor- mance rotary production of die-cut corrugated products in ultimate flexo post-printing quality. It handles corrugated sheets with a width of up to 110.24-in and a thickness of 0.354-in, running at speeds up to 12,000 sheets per hour due to the machine’s ability to set up while production is running and fast job changes. The ChromaCUT High Tech features many advanced technologies, including stereo changeover while the ma- chine is running, automatic anilox changeover, and the most recent zero-defect technology. Print quality, die cutting precision, and productivity can all be found on the ChromaCUT Smart machine. This ro- tary die cutter with direct drive motors represents a per- fect combination of innovation and functionality that can meet the highest expectations and quality standards. It is equipped with Koenig & Bauer Celmacch’s quality control system. Visit www.koenig-bauer.com for more information.
