Toolkits updated Toolkits to help minimise common errors – updated

HMRC has published the updated Expenses and Benefits from Employment Toolkit in addition to the National Insurance Contributions and Statutory Payments Toolkit. The purpose of the toolkits is to assist agents when completing their clients' returns and forms.

A summary evaluation report highlighting the success of HMRC's recent alternative dispute resolution trial for small and medium enterprises and individual customers has now been published.

HMRC STAKEHOLDER UPDATE – NUMBER 14

HMRC has circulated their latest informal weekly update for 2013 to stakeholders, which looks to provide informal highlights as a result of listening to employer feedback and working in partnership with stakeholders. Real Time Information The number of employers sending their PAYE information to HMRC in real time continues to increase as expected. Rather than there being a ‘big bang’, submissions will increase steadily at the rate that employers run their usual payroll timetable. Real Time Information and National Insurance number Verification Requests (NVRs) - clarification on when to submit an NVR, following a number of queries from employers Employer Bulletin Issue 44 - is now available. Aimed at Employers and Agents it contains important information and news about topics affecting the operation of payroll. Statutory Sick Pay - Percentage Threshold Scheme and Record-Keeping The Government published its response to the Sickness Absence Review’s recommendations on 17 January 2013. The response also outlines a broader strategy to support the health and wellbeing of the working age population. In particular it examines the following issues and full details can be found on the DWP Policy site :

 A health and work assessment and advisory service  Improving sickness absence management  Supporting healthcare professionals  Reforming the benefits system

Two of the recommendations agreed were the abolition of the Percentage Threshold Scheme and record-keeping for Statutory Sick Pay. DWP announced that these changes will be effective from April 2014. Full details can be found on the DWP Newsroom site Record keeping and mobile applications – an update to the record keeping software and mobile applications options to include 'cash basis' and 'simplified expenses'.
