Lions Club expands Christmas Angels

CANDICE VETTER candice.vetter@eap.on.ca

RUSSSELL l In recognition of the growth of Russell Village the Russell Lions Club is ex- panding their Christmas Angels program this year, o!ering Angels at two locations. Urban Country, which has been the host store for the purchase of Christmas Angels, will be joined by Barry’s Home Hardware. The angel program is used to buy a gift for a child and help support families in the community who have not had a good year. Shoppers can choose an angel, buy an ap- propriate gift, and deliver it unwrapped to Urban Country or Barry’s Home Hardware by December 15. In addition to children’s gifts, the Lions will provide food vouchers from Foodland in Russell to ensure everyone will be able to celebrate Christmas with a traditional meal. The Russell Fire Department will also be providing the Lions with enough carbon monoxide detection kits for each family. Families wishing to be part of the program can register with the Embrun Good Neigh- bours Food Bank, local churches or Lions Club members. The Russell Lions will be participating in many other seasonal events locally, includ- ing being part of the Russell Christmas Pa- rade on November 30, and providing judg- es for the parade. After the parade, they will be serving hot chocolate and cookies up- stairs in the arena. They will be lighting the Christmas tree in Lions’ Park and will also be distributing Christmas cakes to area seniors’ homes. The 2015 Prescott-Russell Recreational Trail Calendar is available for pickup at various locations throughout the region. The third edition of the annual trail promotional product is a joint venture between the Barnyard Studio in Cla- rence-Rockland and the Prescott-Russell Recreational Trail Association. The photos gracing the calendar’s pages are all from local photographers working through the studio as part of its photography instruc- tion program. The photos highlight the various recreational activities it supports. Copies of the calendar are available in many locations, including VéloXpress in Embrun, the Saint-Albert Cheese Coo- perative, MLS Insurance Brokers in St-Isi- dore and the South Nation Conservation Authority o!ce in Finch.
