OPP credit goes in reserve The !nal report on the 2014 policing costs for Russell Township is not done yet but the municipality has at least six- month’s worth of surplus funds already set aside from the !rst half of the year according to a semi-annual report on the OPP contract. Council approved a recommendation from administration to transfer that money, amounting to $29,821, into the township’s policing reserve as a bank against any future increases in policing costs.
Deron Brookes, Cherry Bekkers and Baird McNeill were some of attendees at the annual Christmas ham luncheon, baking and craft sale held at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Russell on November 15. The annual event raises funds for the church and their works. Recently the church had to spend substantial funds to take down the steeple, belfry and bell. The congregation hoped to be able to replace the support structure, but the repairs necessary for the aging, rotted structure were too expensive and without repairs it cannot hold the bell’s weight.
