Hugh transcended to Chapter Invisible November 3, 2018 after a long illness.

appreciated and praised as a mentor for hundreds of young men and women he helped to obtain college admissions, scholarships and/or grants allowing them to attend Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) as well as other institutions of higher education. Brother John E. Berry was preceded in death by his mother, Marian Constance Berry and his fathers, John Berry and John Palmer. He is survived by his wife, Pearline; step sons - Jonathon (Michelle) Lang, and Jason Lang; granddaughters - Lili and Roxi; sisters - Cynthia (Mamon) Powers Jr.; Joann (Alvin) Washington, Cheryl Anderson, Donna Bodie, Patricia (James) Eggleston, Michelle Johnson, Gail (Jeff) Larson and brother - Michael Palmer. He also leaves a host of other loved ones including nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, students and colleagues who will cherish his memories.

1933–2018 US Air Force

Hugh F. Bar- rington Jr. (Gamma Epsilon 1952) was born to Hugh and Bernice Barrington

in Tuskegee Institute Alabama as the youngest and only son of three chil- dren. Both his parents were graduates of Tuskegee Institute, and his father was an instructor there. Hugh moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1936 when his father accepted a position with Ford Motor Co., to be a Faculty Representa- tive for Colored students with summer jobs. Hugh in the light of Faith grew in the knowledge of God’s word early as he worshipped with his family at St. Stephens A.M.E. Church. He re- mained an active faithful member of St. Stephen from that day to the present. Hugh entered into holy matrimony with his friend, college sweetheart and love Loretta Flakes (deceased) when they were married in 1955, in Tuskegee Cha- pel, later making Detroit their home. To their union four children were born. When wife Loretta departed he later found a re-newness in a reconnection with life-long friend from childhood Patricia Spann who became his wife 17 years ago. Hugh graduated from Tuske- gee Institute, earning a Bachelor of Sci- ence in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation he was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force. Hugh would go on to pilot the F-86 Fighter Jet. Hugh was an active member of Detroit Alumni for 62 years, serving on a multitude committees and leadership positions. He was a Kappa’s Kappa, a genuine man of achievement. In 1956 after receiving an honorable discharge he toke over Barrington Electric from his father. He employed over 70 work- ers, with projects throughout the state of Michigan. He modeled to young people how to live love and give. His contribution were noted and applauded in awards and affiliations including African American Heritage Associa-

John E. Berry 1943–2019 Educator

John E. Berry (Delta Pi 1966) entered the Chapter Invisible on February 8, 2019 at the age of 75.

John Elwood Berry was born October 20, 1943 in Gary, IN. After graduating from Gary’s Roosevelt High School in 1961, Berry earned a Bachelor's degree in industrial administration from Michigan State University in 1966. He subsequently earned a M.B.A from California State University in 1968 and a M.S. degree in Science and Industrial Relations at the University of Southern California in 1973. He began his professional career teaching at California State University and spent more than 43 years at numerous institutions including Purdue University, University of Southern California and Antelope Valley College where he retired in 2008. Berry was a charter member of the Long Beach-Inglewood-South Bay Alumni (CA) Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi® where he served as the chapter’s second polemarch. He was a member of the Lancaster Palmdale (CA) Alumni Chapter and an avid supporter of the chapter’s Guide Right Program at Antelope Valley College. Brother Ronald E. Bookman, JD (Long Beach, Inglewood, South Bay (CA)

AL 1989) has transitioned on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at the age of 60. Born on October 14, 1958 in Los Angeles as the youngest son to Mary Drew who has proceeded him in passing. He lived in Los Angeles for the majority of his life before moving to Phoenixville, PA. in 2005 with his beloved wife and son. Ron prided himself in health and wellness along with education as exhibited with his educational accomplishments - that included: An AA degree in Radiology from El Camino College; a BA in Business Marketing from Cal State University, Los Angeles; Teaching credentials from UCLA; A law degree from the University of West Los Angeles and a Master’s Degree from St. Joseph’s University.
